Grungy Art Journal Page - Own Your Dreams

Hello, everyone!! I hope you all had a great holiday. Can you believe that the new year is just around the corner? I know after this crazy year, we are probably all very excited at the prospect of new beginnings, but also maybe wary at the same time. I hope that wherever you are, you're doing well, and feeling hopeful!

I will tell you, I had a really hard time with this project. I had no idea what to do. I finally landed on my default- a journal page. I used some of the collage papers I made in my last project, along with some rust dyed fabric and other bits I have hanging around.

The first thing I did was stamp with some acrylic ink, then on top of that I glued down a layer of rust dyed fabric. I have been really loving the texture the fabric brings, and sometimes the rust really pops when you glue it down.
I painted with some more acrylic ink and coffee, did some more paint stamping, and then started my collage. I knew I wanted to use the flying heart images, so I really built my collage focal point around that.

I hope you enjoy the video and the process!!

Twinkle Twinkle Pocket Tag

By Guest Artist Nancy Baumiller

The variety of rubber stamps at Rubber Moon is outstanding! Super great artists stamps to choose from and the shipping is lightning fast! Totally blown away!

I choose Dreamer Girl and Picasso Quote by Mindy Lacefield! Such a lovely soul and such an inspiration!

Twinkle Twinkle Pocket Tag

To start, I used 3- 6" x 3" brown paper craft tags and then lightly brushed white gesso over all 3 tags.
I then took one of tags and cut in half. With the lower half, I then cut off a small strip, about 1/2" and then with the remainder, I cut off the corners. (sorry for the lack of photos on some parts)

For the background on the first gessoed (full sized) tag, use a damp brush and pick up color from a black water soluable crayon. I use Neo II's. and paint the tag black-ish. Leaving about a 1/4 border around the tag. Paint about 3/4 the way down. I tried make it appear as if the little girl was sitting in bed wishing on stars.

When that is dry, draw on little stars with a white Gelly Roll pen. With a white Neo II crayon, draw straight onto the tag, creating a moon! Then adding a bit of yellow around the moon.
Paint the bottom piece using an olive green Neo II.  Then paint the 1/2 inch strip with Acrylic Neon Red paint. Add little lace like sticker embellishments to the top of the 1/2 inch strip. Also, added some star sticker gems to the top half of the tag!

To attach the "bed" to the background tag, Poke holes all round about 1/4 apart using an awl, through both pieces. Sew pieces together with embroidery floss.

For the girl...using the second gessoed tag.....Stamp the "Dreamer Girl" using permanent black ink. Stamp just below the hanger(?) Never did know exactly what to call those. hee hee  Then draw a dress skirt.

Paint the girl with Neo II's.  Her cheeks, nose and mouth, use acrylic Neon red paint. Paint stripes on shirt a periwinkle color. Then paint skirt a light pink acrylic paint, then smudge red Gelato crayon around edges. Made polka dots with a blue paint pen and then stamp using the Picasso Quote using permanent black ink and stamped it on her skirt.

Add fibers to top of your tag!

Thanks for having me! It was great fun! Hope you enjoy!

Ode to a Cat by Kim

Hello my Artsy Friends! Today, I would like to share with you my Kitty Cat banner. I am a cat person (as you can tell) and thought it would be fun to play with some of the great cat stamps that RubberMoon has in their store.

I had a lot of fun with this banner and used my beloved cat Miss Blue, who is a pure bred blue point rag doll, as my inspiration for the stamps and the sentiments.  I used various colors of ink to achieve my background, and have a short tutorial below to show how I achieved the look.

After I was happy with the watercolor look of the inks, I used various RubberMoon stamps in the background to finish off the look before I stamped on my focal images of the cats.

Here is my banner put together and complete....

I used my Pentel watercolor pen and some colorful inks in various colors. First I dipped my brush in the inks and did random areas of the Inchie Art Squares Tile.  I really love these tiles, they really are super sturdy and make for a great base for my banner.

After I had added all my colors it was time to stamp my images.

I have used a very non-conventional item to put my stamped image on...toilet tissue!  Yes, that's right, I have used some ordinary toilet tissue. I love the effect it gives! I wanted the Cat stamps to stand out from the background stamping I did and this was a great way to achieve the look.  The tissue took the stamp great and then I fussy cut it out and mod podged it onto the art square. The finished result is something different and fun!

I hope you have enjoyed taking a peek into my studio today, and will try out some of these techniques and sweet kitty cat stamps from RubberMoon, they are just purrrfect!

Whimsical Watercolor Houses

Hello friends!  Carmen here stopping by from Serendipity Studio to share my very first post with RubberMoon Stamps.  So exciting!

I'm lovin' my new stamps and how versatile they are to use on different papers, canvases and mediums.  For my first go round I decided to do a watercolor painting using Strathmore Watercolor Paper cold press 5.5" x 8.5".  I used a standard watercolor set and a set of Pro Arte Artists brushes in sizes #8, #6 and #2 for the details.

I used Ranger Archival Ink for the stamping.  The stamps went on evenly and smoothly, no spaces!  I love that!

The doodle trees, pathways and grass were created using Micron Pen .03 mm.

The images of the houses and dangle hearts are the perfect size for adding watercolor and being able to give them dimension by adding more/or less water and color.

The stamps that I used were:

Lovely Loft House db4265

Crooked Chimney House db4793

Row House db4452

Love Grows ge2881

Here is a brief video of this creative process...

I plan on framing this piece and displaying it in my studio.  Thanks so much friends for letting me visit with you today.  Remember to come back often to see what the other members of the RubberMoon Design Team are up to.

Blessings,

Carmen

BOHEMIAN ART APRON

It all started with a little grey skirt.

A skirt that had a lot of sentimental value.

but so unassuming it was relegated to the closet wallflower  pile.

                                        always.

                                       until today...

today that little grey skirt finds her destiny...

see, this little skirt just happens to have a lovely little liner underneath...

and I just happen to have a pair of scissors

how convenient! (or tragic, depending on
how you look at it) hee-hee

                                   no fear, just chop chop!!!

why yes, this is exactly how my bangs looked as a child...
                                    I still have the touch!

                                          carry on!

                            my favorite things!!!!

                            vintage papers!!!!

                           Rubbermoon spiral pod stamp!!!!

Tim Holtz Distress Ink from Ranger Inc!!!!

                            exclamation points!!!!

                                   **************************

begin by random stamping on vintage paper...

                                   then

                create a 'reverse contrast' print

                          with white ink

                      stamped on dark paper

I  just tore a page out of a magazine for this

*(make sure ink is dry on glossier paper before copying)

trim strips from stamped magazine page and place on vintage paper

add some fun little 'scatter marks' with a sharpie

             arrange your stamped papers

             face down in your printer,

put transfer paper in paper tray

           * I used 'Tailor' iron on sheets from Michaels

              then hit 'copy'!

by the way  -  using 'reverse/mirror' feature on
             copier prevents words transferring backwards

            Below are my printed copies...COOLIO!!!!!!

now just put pattern face down on fabric, and iron!

pull paper up and there you go!!!!!!

            * sometimes the pattern will just partially transfer

                                  no worries!!!!

                                 it simply adds character

I made 3 transfer sheets, adding some of my own artwork

                                   to the mix

now it's time for 'cut & paste'!!!

if you sew, feel free to stitch your little heart out.

I am much better with glue...

I embellished  and bedazzled with buttons,

                   sparkly ribbons, and raggy strips,

including some cool mesh from Linnie Blooms!

and yes, my patches are also are pockets...

and here ends the tale of how little gray wallflower skirt

became the 'life of the party apron',

and lived an artsy bohemian life happily ever after.

Bejeweled Bliss !!!

                                                 WARNING:

This project is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!!

I am not kidding. Continue reading only if you have
  very strong willpower,
   a little place to create,
and a penchant for all things
sparkly!

Cuz we are going to make some 'out of this world'
 JEWELRY

from a couple of awesome RUBBERMOON stamps!!!!!

first, you need a stamp or two...and a hunk of Sculpey Mold Maker Clay,
and a package of white Fimo clay or Sculpey clay.

knead the molding clay to soften it, roll it to about 1/4 "
then simply press your stamp into clay.
I am using a pair of faves from Rubbermoon,

                               'spiral pods' ge2482a
                                           &
                              'mod marks' kp5098c

*ahem - it's obviously been a while since I used my studio toaster oven
it's such a perfect sized cubby for colored pencil tins...

                                         ok, pencils OUT,
                                   prepared stamp molds IN!

just follow directions on package to bake.
keep an eye on 'em. They brown up pretty quick!
generally as soon as you turn your back.

*ventilation is a good idea too, there can be fumes while baking.

Your home oven will work just fine too, but I prefer to bake
inedibles in a designated studio oven.

visions of my hubby nabbing one, eating it, and telling me how good it is
might have something to do with it too.

ok, yeah, I turned my back...they're a bit overcooked.

but no worries! they're just fine!

give 'em a quick dusting of talcum powder to discourage stickiness...

grab a piece of your white Fimo clay, knead into little balls,
and press balls into molds, then gently remove.

the molds are flexible, so this is easy

here's a few out of their molds... trim off any excess with a sharp knife,

then pop them into the little oven -
                                     and don't turn your back!!!!!

after baking and cooling,  paint metallic gold!!!!!

define raised areas by rubbing with shimmer dust.
I used Pearl-Ex copper and bronze powders.

I  glued vintage paper to back of rectangular pieces,

and glued pendant bails on to attach necklace chain.....

                                 now..... MUST ADD SPARKLES!!!!

( oh, you had to know that was coming )

assorted bits and baubles help inspire....

                                          and here we go!!!!!!

                                     but we need another layer...

                                        yes, that will do nicely!!!!

                                        how about another layer?
