The Magic of Autumn

Happy Autumn Everyone!

Nothing gets my creativity flowing like that first chilly snap in the air. And the colors? Zowie! Endless inspiration is right outside the window.

One of my favorite mediums to work with is Alcohol Ink. If you've never played with them, get some! It's so easy to create marbled backgrounds or just splotchy fun backgrounds. Plus, it's fun to watch them mingle and spread and do their own thing. Although they come in dozens of colors, they definitely lend themselves well to that feeling of Fall.

I did all of the stamping on this card with StazOn Jet Black ink. I then colored in the tree and the stars with Sharpies (alcohol ink tends to repel and/or absorb water-based inks). To give the stars a little shimmer I dabbed on some Stickles.

That's all there was to it! Simple, yet tons of fun.

But, WAIT!!!

Kae Pea is currently on a road trip to Seattle and has authorized a sale! Through September 28th, get $15 off any order over $75.00 at RubberMoon. This sale is for stamps only (excludes art supplies, mounts, etc). The code to enter at checkout is: ROADTRIP2015

Where will your creativity take you?

The Moon Goddess Has Landed!

I was so excited when I opened this month's MoonMail package from RubberMoon! Why? Because, along with the Moon Goddess stamp by Claudia Rose, came the announcement that RubberMoon is once again carrying a huge line of Claudia Rose's designs!

I want all of them.

I'm not kidding. I would  never joke about something as serious as rubber stamps!

As it stands right now, I only have this one. So, I had to do at least a couple of different projects. I loved it so much on the card I made that I went right ahead and made a magnet to go with it. (Moments like this are why the laundry is always in the dryer and not folded and put away.)

For the card I simply stamped the image on glossy white paper with StazOn Jet Black ink. I added the "to the moon & back" sentiment in StazOn as well. I colored it in with ColourArte Twinkling H20s.

The magnet began as a credit card blank. I stamped it with StazOn also, but colored it in with sharpies.

Where will your imagination take you? Happy Crafting!

Moon ' ificent!

I love Halloween more than any other holiday and I hope you enjoy my Hallow offering!

Supplies used:

RubberMoon: GE2520 - 4 sided Moon Cube Stamp
Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko:  StazOn Jet Black
Alpha Stamps: Black Dresden Trim
Sizzix: Squares Die and Eileen Hull, Cubes Die
White Mountboard
Sharpie Black Marker Pen
Glue

I began by die cutting all of my shapes

I then stamped my images and went around the edges with a black Sharpie pen

I used the StazOn pad direct to the mountboard. This produces an almost linen/fabric effect on the surface. On the larger bottom square I went around the edge with the Sharpie again to give it more definition against the white edge of the middle size square.

I then assembled my cube using the same StazOn ink technique and finished the top and bottom edges of the four sides with black Dresden trim.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog today!

BOHEMIAN ART APRON

It all started with a little grey skirt.

A skirt that had a lot of sentimental value.

but so unassuming it was relegated to the closet wallflower  pile.

                                        always.

                                       until today...

today that little grey skirt finds her destiny...

see, this little skirt just happens to have a lovely little liner underneath...

and I just happen to have a pair of scissors

how convenient! (or tragic, depending on
how you look at it) hee-hee

                                   no fear, just chop chop!!!

why yes, this is exactly how my bangs looked as a child...
                                    I still have the touch!

                                          carry on!

                            my favorite things!!!!

                            vintage papers!!!!

                           Rubbermoon spiral pod stamp!!!!

Tim Holtz Distress Ink from Ranger Inc!!!!

                            exclamation points!!!!

                                   **************************

begin by random stamping on vintage paper...

                                   then

                create a 'reverse contrast' print

                          with white ink

                      stamped on dark paper

I  just tore a page out of a magazine for this

*(make sure ink is dry on glossier paper before copying)

trim strips from stamped magazine page and place on vintage paper

add some fun little 'scatter marks' with a sharpie

             arrange your stamped papers

             face down in your printer,

put transfer paper in paper tray

           * I used 'Tailor' iron on sheets from Michaels

              then hit 'copy'!

by the way  -  using 'reverse/mirror' feature on
             copier prevents words transferring backwards

            Below are my printed copies...COOLIO!!!!!!

now just put pattern face down on fabric, and iron!

pull paper up and there you go!!!!!!

            * sometimes the pattern will just partially transfer

                                  no worries!!!!

                                 it simply adds character

I made 3 transfer sheets, adding some of my own artwork

                                   to the mix

now it's time for 'cut & paste'!!!

if you sew, feel free to stitch your little heart out.

I am much better with glue...

I embellished  and bedazzled with buttons,

                   sparkly ribbons, and raggy strips,

including some cool mesh from Linnie Blooms!

and yes, my patches are also are pockets...

and here ends the tale of how little gray wallflower skirt

became the 'life of the party apron',

and lived an artsy bohemian life happily ever after.

             xoxo

Henny Penny Christmas with Teresa Kolar

Let Your Colors Do The Talking!!
Bawk Bawk!!

Henny Penny Christmas/Holiday Greeting Card

Hello Awesome Artsy Friends!
Teresa Cox Kolar here with RubberMoon Art Stamps!
I am so excited to show you this fun way to create a Christmas/Holiday composition on a blank greeting card.

"Let Color Do The Talking" is my title because as you can see the materials I have chosen have been arranged to suggest a particular Christmas icon-
the Christmas Tree!
This tutorial will demonstrate how "thinking outside the box"
can be so much fun with whimsical results.

I often tell my students, "all we need are the colors that send the message-in this case- Christmas.
Red and green say Christmas as clear as a bell!
So the materials for our composition are unlimited
because the colors have defined everything else for us.
With that being said,
in this tutorial,
shape is important as well....

All we do is stack some chickens on top of each other,
color them red and and green and
 Voila!
A whimsical Christmas/ Holiday greeting card.
Love it!

Materials
This project was a bit nostalgic. I used materials that
reminded me of my childhood. Many of these things you
probably have around the house, especially if you
have children.
I created the Henny Pennys in this
tutorial using the RubberMoon Art Stamp shown above:
Chicken-#GE2535

Step 1- Stamping
Start your greeting card by stamping a row of 3 Henny Pennys.
Draw  lines with a straight edge for a guide. You can
erase them later.

Step 2-Coloring
Continue as shown here. Color in your Henny Pennys
with a green Sharpie marker.

Step 3-Add detail

Add to the Christmas Tree shape design using red dots to contrast the chickens.
I have added very small green dots also.

Step 4- Adhere to card stock
Here I am showing you the backside of the paper with the chickens on it..
As you can see the sharpie ink bleeds through-alot! You could use
a different type of marker that doesn't bleed so much.
I chose Sharpie because the colors are much
brighter. When you work on the paper then, glue it to your card, you
avoid ink bleeding through to the inside.

The choice of glue is very important here.
Use a glue stick or some type of adhesive that will not ripple the paper.
Do not grab your Elmer's glue or any other liquid type of glue.
It will ripple your paper.
(Sorry that sounded a bit bossy.
But, really, you don't want to ripple all your hard work. Believe me, I've done it)
:-)

Step 5-Add Glitter
Photo#1
Outline the edge of your art work with red glue.
I used glitter glue. It was what I had handy.
Instead I would recommend using Elmer's Glue
(for this part liquidy glue is a good thing).
Glitter glue is quite difficult to keep tidy. It is difficult to get a nice straight line.
I would recommend doing a line of Elmer's then sprinkle
the glitter on that. The good old fashioned way.

Photo #2
Dry your lines with the blow dryer. Be very careful.
Glitter glue takes a very long time to dry.

Step 6- Correction (if needed)

This step is a lesson on how to correct a spot in the art that turned out unsightly.
Look at the first and second photos  in step 5. The bottom row has two chickens that need
a re-do on their faces. If this happens to you, simply stamp on another piece of paper, color in the area you need for the correction, cut it out and glue over the unsightly spot(s).

Add a gold star at the top with a dab of red glitter and
Voila!
Fini!
