Blog Hoppin'

Welcome to the Inchie Arts and StencilGirl Blog Hop!

Hi, it's me Kae Pea! Owner and artist at RubberMoon.
We are so excited to be a part of this hop.
Here at RubberMoon we love Inchie Arts art squares and StencilGirl stencils!

I created a great piece of framed art using a few supplies and I wanted to share this fun project with you.

Here are the materials I used for my piece of art:
  • 4" Inch Inchie Art Square (I used white but other colors would be great too!)
  • Wheel In the Sky Stencil ( I designed this one but there are so many awesome stencils to choose from!)
  • gouache and acrylic paints ( I used my favorites but you choose yours!)
  • paint brush
  • baby wipes
  • RubberMoon stamp "True Free Spirit" (this one is by Mindy Lacefield and there are so many more great sayings and images at RubberMoon.com!)
  • ready made frame with a 4 x 4 opening
  • black ink pad
1. Paint your Inchie Art Square with gouache*
(it is important to use gouache for this layer so you
can easily remove color with your baby wipe.
you may use acrylic, but it will not come up as easily.)
2. Place the portion of your stencil that you want to use
over your painted Art Square and remove
color with your baby wipe by gently rubbing and patting.
3. Remove your stencil and now paint and stamp with acrylic
paints. I used some texture/mixed media stamps from RubberMoon.

Here is my Inchie Art Square...painted, stenciled and ready to stamp!

I used the "true free spirit stamp" I only used the words
"free spirit" by masking off the word "true"...
I placed my finished art into a 4 x 4 white frame.

Would make a great gift but also looks perfect in my studio!
Thank you for visiting! And thank you to Inchie Arts and StencilGirl for inviting us to hop!

Winter Magic Wall Hanging

Question: What's better than rubber stamps from RubberMoon?

Answer: Rubber stamps from RubberMoon and Art Squares from Inchie Arts!

I was cleaning up and about to put away my winter and Christmas stamps (Why?! I'm just going to use them again tomorrow!), when I glanced at my tiny collection of Art Squares and had a fit of inspiration. I decided to make a wall hanging. That's my excuse for not cooking dinner that time.

I began with the largest square, which is 4 x 4". I coated the background with a light blue ink and then stamped on the trees and snowflakes. I added the sentiment using StazOn jet black ink. I used irRESISTibles Shimmer to make dots of snow - I love the little bit of sparkle it adds. I made the snow under the trees using Amplify that I sprinkled with glitter before it dried.

For the snowflake panels, I first coated them in StazOn white Studio Glaze. Once that was dry, and it doesn't take long at all, I put the panels side by side and stamped the large snowflake. That way I didn't have to stamp it twice and try to guess at placement. I stamped the smaller snowflakes and then added dots of Stickles hologram for extra bling.

Last, but not least was my favorite little tree angel stamp. I colored her in and used my finger and ink to make swipes of blue for the sky. Then I used Stickles hologram again and smeared it across the panel with my finger. Yes, my hands usually end up looking like I got into a prize fight with an elf, but I get the job done.

The trickiest part of this project was lining things up and making sure I got the holes punched in the right place. The rest of it was just plain fun!

Where will your imagination take you? Forget cooking dinner... just go there.

Halloween Coasters

What do you do when you need a fast and easy handmade gift? You grab the 3" art squares from Inchie Arts and make a set of coasters!

These are ridiculously simple to make. Yes, they'll (hopefully) get used and abused and eventually tossed, but for an inexpensive gift that shows some craft-y effort, it's worth it. Not everything we artsy-craftsy people make is mean to be a timeless heirloom.

I began with the art square and stamped both the pumpkin and the sentiment using StazOn black ink. I used StazOn because it is a solvent based ink and won't run when wet cups and glasses are set on the coasters. I colored in the pumpkin using Sharpies - again, I chose those because they don't run when they get wet either.

To finish them off, I sponge-swiped StazOn Pumpkin (of course, what else?) colored ink around the edges. All told, the whole project took me about 15 minutes. Of course, the pumpkin bread I made to accompany them took a little bit longer, but some things can't be rushed. Plus, the house smelled great while I was crafting.

Where will your imagination take you? Happy crafting!

Day 6 with Kae Pea

Celebrate our new product launch….with Inchie Arts

As you know, we carry several different sizes of the popular Inchie Arts Art Square products. And when they decided to launch their new 4” black Art Squares they invited us to announce and sell it first.

In fact, it was one of our artists (thank you Sunny!) that nudged Inchie Arts to introduce this particular size and color.  To celebrate, we invited a handful of our designers and artists to let creativity fly with the new 4” black Art Squares.

Every day from now through Saturday we will be posting amazing creations from Lisa Lee, Barb Rogers, Lindsay Ostrom, Sunny Carvalho, Jessica Sporn and Kristen Powers.

And on the Inchie Arts blog, ALL IN AN INCH, Lisa will be sharing lots of techniques and tips for all sizes of black Art Squares from 1" to 4".

A few things you may not know about black Art Squares:

·        they are made from 100% cotton (not paper)
·        they are a super black with the 'black' sourced from natural ebony
·       they are a perfect 4 ply substrate for direct art application especially acrylic paints, white and metallic detail pens, colored pencils, Pan Pastels, stamping and embossing with white or light colors, chalk board style work and photo creations.

Day 6 with Kae Pea- Moon Making!

I made a moon (well, of course I did.)
I started with :
4" Black Art Square from Inchie Arts
the melanie stamp (RubberMoon stamp designed by Marilynn Kelly)
My Geo Circles Stencil from StencilGIrl
white gesso
Sharpie Extra Fine water-based Paint Marker (white)

First, I started by tracing a circle on to my black art square from my geo circles stencil, using a white paint marker.
I did not want it centered, so I made it go off the edges of the surface just a bit.....
I put a thin layer of gesso onto my red rubber palette and used it to "ink" my stamp.
Then, I stamped the face into the circle. Like this:
See?
It's not perfect and that's okay. Layering washes of paint will surely help!
I simply painted with washy gesso....
and I kept doing that. More thin layers of gesso and then some touches of paint on the eyes and lips... (I used a teeny tiny bit of watercolors but acrylics or practically anything will work) making it look like this:
I let this all dry a while and then I used my white gesso and red rubber palette again to stamp my ink splat stamp (I like this stamp a LOT and often use it as a 'starry sky')
See? Lika dis...
After that is all stamped across the background and all my paint is dry (which didn't take long because it's all nice thin layers.) I then went back in with some colored pencils and add a bit more depth and value and highlights.....
Like so:
Then I stamped this Love you to the Moon & Back
stamp right here...
I like a good sentiment with my art. Don't you?
.........
I liked my piece but it didn't feel quite finished...So I found a 41/4" x 41/4 " wood block and a piece of decorative paper that I thought looked dandy....
I mounted the paper to the wood block using my favorite white glue, painted the sides and back of the wood block with black gesso then I took my Inchie Art Square artwork and mounted that baby right onto my collaged, wood block and
voilà!!

Thanks for stopping by and taking your time to peruse and comment.
I want to say thanks to Lisa Lee over at Inchie Arts for launching this great new product with us!

Day 5 with Jessica Sporn

Celebrate our new product launch….with Inchie Arts

Day 5 with Jessica Sporn- Mini Canvases!

Hi - Jessica Sporn here to show you three "mini masterpieces" I made using Inchie 4 x 4" Art Squares, my stamps from RubberMoon and my stencils from Stencil Girl Products.

The Inchie Art Squares are made from artist grade, precision cut mat board.  Here's what I found when I played with them: The surface is like hot press watercolor paper, so it's perfect for wet mediums, stamping, stenciling - you name it!  The weight of the squares is very sturdy and is perfect for adhering clay embellishments, collage and other mixed media.    So they definitely have advantages over mini-canvases.

I decided to test the product in several different ways --

On this 4 x 4, I painted directly onto the surface using Silks Acrylic glazes.  Then I stamped the Hamsa and Ornate Leaf RubberMoon stamps with my Versamark pad and embossed them using Ranger white embossing powder.   I colored over the embossed images using the Silks glazes and Golden Fluid Acrylic Paints.  I was inspired by this blogpost on the "All in an Inch" blog.

I stenciled directly onto the black 4 x 4 Art Inchie using gold Silks Acrylic Glaze over my Runes stencil from Stencil Girl Products.    Then I stamped the Tree of Life from RubberMoon on a piece of watercolor paper.  I decided to use the tree as hair.  Fun - right?  I adhered the watercolor paper to my inchie using Xyron adhesive dots.

For my last project,  I stamped the Hamsa stamp and the Heart in Star stamp into paper clay, and let it dry over night.  I again stenciled directly onto the 4 x 4" black surface, this time using my Medieval Leaf stencil from Stencil Girl Products.   I painted the clay pieces using Silks Acrylic Glazes and Golden Fluid Acrylic Paints, and adhered them with E-6000 adhesive.

Here's a video of some of my process with all three projects.  Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope this post gave you some ideas and that you get your hands inky and painty soon!

Celebrate our new product launch….with Inchie Arts

As you know, we carry several different sizes of the popular Inchie Arts Art Square products. And when they decided to launch their new 4” black Art Squares they invited us to announce and sell it first.

Every day from now through Saturday we will be posting amazing creations from Lisa Lee, Barb Rogers, Lindsay Waltman-Ostrom, Sunny Carvalho, Jessica Sporn and Kristen Powers.
And on the Inchie Arts blog, ALL IN AN INCH, Lisa will be sharing lots of techniques and tips for all sizes of black Art Squares from 1" to 4".

Day 2 with Barb Rogers - Travel by Night

I had So much fun creating this project using Rubbermoon Stamps and Inchie Art Squares.  Ive been lucky to use Inchie Art Squares in many of my past projects, but this is the first time to create with the 4x4 Black Square Matboard. I just loved using this product, and as always, fun and creative projects using Rubbermoon Stamps are endless.

Below, I will show and list the Stamps and Products used in this Project.
4x4 Precision Cut Black Matboard Squares
Inchie Art Squares  are Perfect for mixed media, watercolor and stamping/coloring on small format Art Projects.

In each project, I used two of the Rubbermoon Stamps of my own design.....
(1) GO BUG
Instead of using the tradition Black colored Ink, this project called for stamping with White Gesso on to the Black Matboard Surface. I love to just show partial images on my pieces, as I did above with the "Go Bug" Stamp, as if the Beetle is driving off of the edge of the Matboard.  I think this adds fun, and shows a sort of "movement" with these Stamps on wheels . Smooth a thin layer of gesso onto a flat surface. I use my Ultimate Red Rubber Pallete as a surface for spreading out the Gesso in order to to get just the right amount on to the stamp. (Do not use too much Gesso, and test it before stamping on to the Art Square). Let the Gesso then dry.

After image is dry, pick out some fun colors that will compliment the black background and white gesso. Paint away!!!
This particular Stamp, I use in many of my Projects and Paintings to Create Stars in the Sky. It is an Exclusive Rubbermoon Stamp through the Rubbermoon Mail Club. Please clink on this link, and find out more information about being part of a fun creative group.

(1)COMET

The New Moon stamp on the Black Art Square surface takes a simple technique. First, apply the New Moon stamp on to the Black Matboard and let dry. Then fill in the center of image with White Gesso and dry again.  Stamp another time, using Black Ink in order to show a face on the white image. Then paint on your accents.
I hope you enjoy using the Inchie Arts Black 4' art squares and Rubbermoon Stamps as much as I enjoy them!  Thank you so much and HAPPY CREATING!
TIL NEXT TIME, BARB

Day 1 with Lisa Lee - Patterns...and a chalkboard effect

Begin by randomly stamping a 4” black Art Square with the positive paisley drop from RubberMoon KRE 8 TIV Elements set using white pigment ink.

Once dry, draw over the stamped lines with a Signo white opaque pen.

Using the same white pen, draw open shape patterns within each of the paisley drops. Don’t make them too small as you will be coloring in each of the spaces you create.

Prismacolor pencils work beautifully on the black Art Squares and the lighter colors really stand out – like chalk on a chalkboard! And, if you look carefully each paisley drop has on space that has been colored with either a silver or gold metallic pen as a nod to a favorite artist of ours named Hundertwasser, who used this technique in much of his work!

And if you would like your very own package of black 4” Art Squares, they are available here at RubberMoon!

Holiday ATC's - RubberMoon & Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko Product Swap

IMAGINE Crafts and RubberMoon Art Stamps are excited to share with you the amazing projects that our design teams have created to kick off the Holiday Season! Over the next few days, we'll be sharing with you inspiration and techniques using IMAGINE Crafts' line of ink products featuring rubber stamps from RubberMoon. Be sure to visit the IMAGINE Crafts and RubberMoon blogs daily for more projects and ideas!

Hello friends, this is Carmen, and I'm sharing with you today some ATC cards with a Holiday theme.  I started off with some cards from Inchies Arts squares, they are so easy to work with and take all kinds of mediums.

I painted a layer of acrylic paint first then used a texture sheet from Gina's Designs as a stencil with Imagine Crafts Fireworks spray in Summer sky.  It's a very soft look.

The Peace on Earth stamp was used with the Delicata pigment ink pad in Silvery Shimmer.

I cut part of the texture sheet and embossed it with black powder using the Versamark embossing pad

The embossed texture sheet was adhered with some Creative Gel Medium.

A final spritz of Shimmer spray in Frost and it's done.

The second card I started with a layer of acrylic paint and adhered some book page strips for a more vintage look.

I gave it some more color by adding StazOn midi pad in Emerald City with Ink Blushers sponges.

I had a couple of pieces of wood embellishments and enhanced them with some Fireworks spray in Lady bug.

For this card I used the lovely Ornaments Border stamp with Delicata in Gold.

I painted in the ornaments with the Fireworks in Lady Bug.

And the finished card...

I made one last one completely different from the Holiday theme.  This steampunk card of gears is made with the Gears stamp, irRESIStible texture sprays, and texture sheet in gears.

I love how all of them came out, each one of them unique, colorful and full of texture.  All of these products worked great together.  The only problem I had was trying to decide which ones to use!  Which I guess is a good problem.

Thanks so much for visiting with us today!  Please browse around and check out the other great projects by our team.

Happy Holidays!
