Christmas Tins - Metal Art and Rubber Stamps

 Hi Everyone,

I am Elitia Hart, a metal art and mixed media explorer.

For this blogpost I used 100 Proof Press rubber stamps to create small metal embossed Christmas themed Tins.

All the stamps used are from 100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps
except for the crackle texture background stamp as I can not
recall the origin. Similar texture is SWplate2 Large Background

Supplies:

Trinket tins -
4.5 x 3.4 x 0.85 Inch Rectangular Hinged (Amazon)
Lead free Pewter Sheet 4.5 x 3.4 x 0.85- www.pewterart.ca
Sook Wang Adhesive Tape Sheet
Sanding Block
Stazon Jet Black Ink Pad
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (as a filler)
Spray Lacquer Satin
Foam Mat
Hard surface Mat
Paper Pad
Basic Embossing tools : Teflon Tip, Paper Stump, Plastic Eraser Tool-www.pewterart.ca
Round Corner Punch
Exacto Knife
Cutting Mat
Betun De Judea Al Agua-water based brown stain-www.pewterart.ca
Permapaque Pigment Black Marker
Tim Holtz Adirondak Alcohol Inks : Lettuce, Red Pepper
Vintage Patina Paint for Metal : Marble
Plaid Once Step Gold Leaf : Classic Gold

Instructions:

For these tins I did not create a video but you can
watch the same technique as a free tutorial on Craft Cast Fun at One

Sand the lid of the tins to create a tooth for good adhesion.

Round the corners of the cut metal sheets using a corner punch.

Stamp on the front of the metal using Stazon Jet Black Ink

Place stamped metal on the foam mat and use the teflon tip tool to
outline the primary lines of the stamp.

This is what it looks like from the back.

Place on the hard surface and use the paper stump to flatten the background around the stamped image.

Use the wedge part of the plastic eraser tool to push the metal towards the stamped image outline and neaten the edges with the tip part of the tool.

Use the paper pen from the back on the foam mat to push on the inner lines of the design to emboss it to be more raised on the front.
Always repeat the previous step once you have pushed the metal out from the back : Place on the hard surface and use the paper stump to flatten the background around the stamped image.

I used a dotted texture wheel on a paper pad to create a border.

Use the tip of the teflon tool to make engraved dots on the front.

Fill the concave area on the back of the design with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic to the edge-make sure the piece is level. Allow to set for 6 to 8 hours.

Place matal on Sook Wang Double sided adhesive tape and cut around edges on a cutting mat using an Exacto Knife.I usuall attach the metal to the tin at this stage. Burnish well around the edges to have the metal adhere to the tin lid.

I use the Permapaque black marker over the dotted border and wipe away while the ink is wet to force ink into the recesses.

Spray the image to set the ink. I use Rustoleum Satin Spray Lacquer.

I use Alcohol Inks to add colour to the image and apply white paint dots with a toothpick for snowflakes. Spray the painted image again to set the ink. I use Rustoleum Satin Spray Lacquer.

For a distressed sepia aged look I apply Betun de Judea Al Agua and wipe in one direction to remove excess. As this is a water based paint I spray the painted image again to set the Paint.

All the other tins below where made using the same technique as above.

I stamped the girl image first and the created a mask to add the wing stamps and Leaf Snowflake. I used an unknown crackle texture stamp for the background.

I added Plaid One Step Gold Leaf to the
bare bottom cherub wings and hair.

I added Plaid One Step Gold Leaf to the crackle stamp back ground
around the Tree Woman.

Wishing you all a healthy, peaceful and blessed holiday season.

Reach for the Stars

 Reach for the Stars-Treasure Box

I am Elitia Hart, metal art instructor and mixed media explorer, and this is my second post for the 100 Moons Creative Collaboration blog. I almost always use some form of metal sheet in my projects and love the opportunity and to incorporate Artfoamies100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps and Rubbermoon stamps into my work.

The idea for this little treasure box called " Reach for the Stars" was sparked by the lovely Rubbermoon stamps called Gazing Goddess, Star Goddess, Solstice Heartbeat and Sun Sweet- the small sun face and female form designs all translate beautifully onto metal sheet! For the sides of the box I used the Artfoamies stamp called Tribal Arch and the 100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps Honeycomb Texture Background

When you reach for the stars, you are reaching for the farthest thing out there. When you reach deep into yourself, it is the same thing, but in the opposite direction. If you reach in both directions, you will have spanned the universe.” ― Vera Nazarian.

Stamps

Rubbermoon:  Claudia Rose | CR650F - Gazing Goddess - Rubber Art Stamp - cling
Rubbermoon:  Claudia Rose | CR654F - Star Goddess - Rubber Art Stamp - cling
Rubbermoon:  Claudia Rose | CR813E - Solstice Heartbeat - Rubber Art Stamp - cling
Rubbermoon:  Kae Pea | KP5072F - Sun Sweet - Rubber Art Stamp - cling
100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps : Honeycomb stamp in SWplate55 Three Birds Plate 55 or
Artfoamies : Tribal Arch

Supplies

MDF Box approximately 51/4 x 51/4  inches (13 x 13 cm)
Lead Free Pewter Sheet 51/4 x 51/4 inches (13 x 13 cm)
Scorpal/Sook Wang Adhesive Tape Sheet 51/4  x 51/4  inches (13 x 13 cm)
Card stock/Mat Board 2 inch square with 2 inch square adhesive tape
4 x 1 inch Doll Head/knob (for box feet)

The above supplies are available in a kit on my online store in www.pewterart.ca while stock lasts.

Paints and Inks

Liquitex White Gesso
Liquitex Black Gesso or black acrylic paint
Liquitex Satin Varnish
Silver Acrylic Paint ( I used Cheep! brand)
Golden Fluids Iridescent Gold Deep(Fine)
Permapaque Dual Point Black Marker
Stazon Jet Black
Plaid Liquid Leaf Classic Gold
Rustoleum Satin Clear Spray Lacquer
Weldbond Universal Adhesive
Mod Podge Dimensionals as filler
Baby Oil

Process :

I painted the MDF box with one coat of black gesso, once dry, I painted a second coat with a mix of satin varnish and gesso -this seals the box and makes for a good stamping surface and creates better adhesion for the adhesive tape sheet and the glue for the feet.
Using the Artfoamies foam stamp I stamped the sides with the silver paint. I cut a mask for the Artfoamie stamped images and then stamped the corners with the 100 Proof Press honeycomb texture background and the Golden Fluids Gold paint. Using a toothpick I added gold dots to the silver stamped image and silver dots to the center of the gold honeycomb stamped areas.
I divided the pewter sheet into blocks and stamped the images on the front using
Stazon Jet Black Ink. To emboss the stamped images I used a Teflon Tip Tool, stylus, Paper Stump and Plastic Eraser tool on a foam mat and hard surface. I also used a ball and cup tool to create domes in the honeycomb stamped areas and a dotted texture wheel to the border. I filled the concave areas with melted beeswax-you can use ModPodge Dimensional Magic (allow for about 4 hours to set)
I then added the card stock to raise the center block, then applied the Sook wang adhesive to the back of the pewter sheet and attached it to the box lid. I used the Permapaque marker to add interest to the engraved areas and added gold details with the Plaid Liquid Leaf Classic Gold. I attached the knobs for the box feet with Weldbond adhesive. The feet had been sealed with gesso and then painted with the Plaid Liquid Leaf Classic Gold.
I used Rustoleum Satin Clear Spray Lacquer to seal both the pewter sheet and the box.

I had lots of fun creating the treasure boxes with these fabulous stamps- hope you will too!

Until further notice, celebrate everything.

Elitia

Go + See + Explore - Art Journal Spread

Hello, everyone! It's Laura, back on the blog today. I am sharing another art journal spread, but one with a little different feel this time.
This project did not start as a journal spread. In fact, I had planned to only make an assortment of tags. But once I started going, this is the direction it led!
I really wanted to try stamping with ArtFoamies and acrylic paint into the gloss sprays. I thought it might make a cool, grungy effect, and I think I was right! I really loved how it turned out! Incidentally, I had some extra spray/paint on one of the foamies, and ended up stamping it on a tag, since it was the closest thing. When I sprayed that tag, the paint and spray I had stamped acted as a resist, and I think it made the result even cooler!
Going back to the tags, I love the way the white ink from the Moonlight Duos pops on the dark background. I've tried a number of white inks, and this is the only one I have ever been happy with.

Supplies:

Dina Wakley Media Journal - Black
Dina Wakley Media Gloss Sprays - Marine, Aloe, Olive, Mineral, Carnation, Lemon, Fuchsia, Apricot
Dina Wakley Media Arylic - Turquoise
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic - Titanium White
White Tag
Black Archival Ink
Burlap
Vintage Book Papers
Letter stamps (cheap set from Michael's)
Golden Matte Gel Medium

Check out the process video below!

I hope you feel inspired to try using your supplies in different ways!

Bird Girls -Metal Embossing and stamps

Hi Everyone,

I am Elitia Hart, metal art instructor and mixed media explorer, and this is my first post for the 100 Moons Creative Collaboration blog. I almost always use some form of metal sheet in my projects and am so excited for the opportunity to incorporate Artfoamies, 100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps and Rubbermoon stamps into my work.

When I first saw the images of 100 Proof Press stamps used to create these two small mixed media and metal tiles it reminded me of a poem by Christy Ann Martine :

" You can't keep her in a cage,
clip her wings, tell her lies
say that fragile birds
were never meant to fly.
Watch her live behind a rusted door, latched tight,
her spirit slipping away so you can keep her in sight
Beautiful creatures cannot be confined.
Her wings will grow,
she'll find the sky. "

Supplies :

Stamps from 100 Proof Press :
Stamp from Artfoamies :
Stencil from Rubbermoon :

2 x Small Square grey Ceramic Tiles 4 inch
Liquitex Basics Gesso White
Rustoleum Clear Satin Spray Lacquer
Stazon Solvent Ink Pad Jet Black
Stazon Solvent Ink Pad Black Cherry
Tim Holtz Ranger Adirondak Alcohol Ink Red Pepper
Tim Holtz Adirondak Alcohol Ink Cloudy Blue
Permapaque Dual Black Marker
Dreamweaver Stencils Metallic Silver Embossing Paste
Plaid Mod Podge Dimensional Magic CS11215
3D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
Scorpal Sook Wang Double Sided Adhesive Tape Sheet+
Acrylic Block , scissors
Lead free Pewter Sheet 36 gauge or Aluminum 40 g
Aluminum Foil Adhesive Tape
Craft Foam sheet and hard smooth surface
Teflon Tip Embossing tool or pencil
Blending Stump/Paper Pen
Small piece of Mat board or cardboard
~

Instructions :

Please use these notes along with the video as I got a little frazzled during filming and might not have addressed the order of business as well as I could have : )

The Tiles :

I painted two grey ceramic tiles with white gesso and stamped the wet paint with the
Gypsy Soul Fragmented Rings Foam Stamp . Once the gesso was dry I added droplets of alcohol inks in the design circles and allowed it to "bleed".
Once the ink was dry I sealed the tiles with Rustoleum Satin Spray lacquer to create a better bond on the tile*****(this is an important step)
I then stamped the corner using Stazon Black Cherry and spiral stamp from the SWplate55 Three Birds Plate 55
I used the Rubbermoon Kae Pea Doily Stencil ATC Size with Dreamweaver Stencils Metallic Silver Embossing Paste to surround the spiral. Once the embossing paste is dry you could apply another coat of satin Rustoleum Lacquer.
I cut strips of Aluminum foil adhesive tape and attached it to the edges of the tiles burnishing it well to adhere. I used a texture wheel on the foil to add some engravings and then applied black ink with the Permapaque marker, wiping away the excess ink while wet.

The Metal Embossing :

I stamped the 3 images on lead free pewter sheet (you can use aluminum 40 gauge too) with Black Stazon Ink. The images were placed on a thin foam craft mat and I went over all the primary design lines using a teflon tip tool. The metal was flipped over and on the back relined just on the inside of the primary line created from the front. I used a paper stump (blending stump) to push out the inside of the design and then placed it face up on the hard surface flattening the background. The concave areas on the back were then filled with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and left to dry overnight.
Once dry, I applied Sook Wang double sided adhesive tape sheet to the back of the metal pieces and used scissors to cut out the girl and egg. The Bird girl was attached to mat board and the edges folded over.

All the metal pieces were a sprayed with Rustoleum Clear Satin Lacquer prior to adding the colored alcohol inks.
Once the ink was dried I used foam dots to attach the rectangular piece to the tile adding some height. The small girl was attached to the tile by removing the backing tape of the Sook Wang tape and the egg with a foam dot.

Spray the completed tiles again.

~
Hope you had fun watching and learning- I certainly enjoyed the process!

Drift Wood Missouri Walking sticks

Hi there, Sandee, Creative Team Coordinator
for the one and only fabulous 100 Moons Collaborative team.

This isn't your usual tutorial post today, just a trip down memory lane about my recent road trip to visit the wonderfully talented artist and owner of Rubbermoon and ArtFoamies and my friend Kristen Powers. I had a lovely room right off the Mississippi River and truly immersed myself in the life among the river....like every morning around 4am when the train rolled through and you can see it far off in the distance here. ..if you look closely.
Foggy morning with the train running over the trestle in the back.

Kae Pea is the hardest working artist I know, truly dedicated to both her companies and to all the people she comes into contact with on a daily basis. She cares deeply and it shows in her dedication.
Kae Pea in her studio

On this trip...
I ventured out along the Mississippi River each morning on a wilderness trek, greeting the rather fragrant shoreline with bright eyed enthusiasm as that is what this nature girl loves. There were treasures to be gathered and hoarded, and one of them was my drift wood walking stick.

I couldn't wait to get back to Kae Pea's studio and begin painting. I wish I could have said I thought about taking pictures to show the step out procedure but alas I did not. But I can tell you I was a woman on a mission to get it fully completed before I left Missouri.

Here's a picture of Kae Pea putting some of her creative genius to work designing the art for her stick with some Art Foamies, which were terrific for stamping onto the round uneven surfaces.

As I left Missouri for my 11 hour trek back across home to North Carolina I was grateful for the time that I got to spend with her and her wonderful family, Mr. Moon and Maxi and I will cherish my memories and look forward to making new ones again soon! I will think of my time spent here walking the Mississippi River front collecting driftwood and the laughter spent with with KP in her studio while we painted and played for hours!
