Hello, everyone!! I hope you all had a great holiday. Can you believe that the new year is just around the corner? I know after this crazy year, we are probably all very excited at the prospect of new beginnings, but also maybe wary at the same time. I hope that wherever you are, you're doing well, and feeling hopeful!

 

I will tell you, I had a really hard time with this project. I had no idea what to do. I finally landed on my default- a journal page. I used some of the collage papers I made in my last project, along with some rust dyed fabric and other bits I have hanging around. 

The first thing I did was stamp with some acrylic ink, then on top of that I glued down a layer of rust dyed fabric. I have been really loving the texture the fabric brings, and sometimes the rust really pops when you glue it down. 

I painted with some more acrylic ink and coffee, did some more paint stamping, and then started my collage. I knew I wanted to use the flying heart images, so I really built my collage focal point around that.

Christmas Tins - Metal Art and Rubber Stamps

 Hi Everyone, 

I am Elitia Hart, a metal art and mixed media explorer. 

For this blogpost I used 100 Proof Press rubber stamps to create small metal embossed Christmas themed Tins.

All the stamps used are from 100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps

except for the crackle texture background stamp as I can not 

recall the origin. Similar texture is SWplate2 Large Background

Instructions:

For these tins I did not create a video but you can 

 watch the same technique as a free tutorial on Craft Cast Fun at One

 

 Sand the lid of the tins to create a tooth for good adhesion.

Round the corners of the cut metal sheets using a corner punch.

Stamp on the front of the metal using Stazon Jet Black Ink

Place stamped metal on the foam mat and use the teflon tip tool to 

outline the primary lines of the stamp.

This is what it looks like from the back. 

Place on the hard surface and use the paper stump to flatten the background around the stamped image. 

Use the wedge part of the plastic eraser tool to push the metal towards the stamped image outline and neaten the edges with the tip part of the tool. 

Use the paper pen from the back on the foam mat to push on the inner lines of the design to emboss it to be more raised on the front. 

Always repeat the previous step once you have pushed the metal out from the back : Place on the hard surface and use the paper stump to flatten the background around the stamped image. 

I used a dotted texture wheel on a paper pad to create a border. 

Use the tip of the teflon tool to make engraved dots on the front.

Fill the concave area on the back of the design with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic to the edge-make sure the piece is level. Allow to set for 6 to 8 hours. 

Place matal on Sook Wang Double sided adhesive tape and cut around edges on a cutting mat using an Exacto Knife.I usuall attach the metal to the tin at this stage. Burnish well around the edges to have the metal adhere to the tin lid.

I use the Permapaque black marker over the dotted border and wipe away while the ink is wet to force ink into the recesses.  

Spray the image to set the ink. I use Rustoleum Satin Spray Lacquer. 

I use Alcohol Inks to add colour to the image and apply white paint dots with a toothpick for snowflakes. Spray the painted image again to set the ink. I use Rustoleum Satin Spray Lacquer.

For a distressed sepia aged look I apply Betun de Judea Al Agua and wipe in one direction to remove excess. As this is a water based paint I spray the painted image again to set the Paint.

All the other tins below where made using the same technique as above.

I stamped the girl image first and the created a mask to add the wing stamps and Leaf Snowflake. I used an unknown crackle texture stamp for the background. 

I added Plaid One Step Gold Leaf to the

bare bottom cherub wings and hair. 

I added Plaid One Step Gold Leaf to the crackle stamp back ground 

around the Tree Woman.

DIY POSTCARD - HOLIDAY SEASON

Hello Everyone, Its me again, Heron the big.boi.journal Instagram owner https://www.instagram.com/big.boi.journal/. Welcome to my 5th blog.

I going to show you the whole process on my DIY Postcard. Here we go :

STEP 1 - IDEA

Mood Board.

Generally I will arrange a get a visual and the item that I want to use and arrange it accordingly. It will give some combination or collage idea on how my postcard will be.

STEP 2 - BASE

Base Layer 1

For the base layer I choose Artfoamies Foam Stamp - Postal by Cat Kerr. Inked with the Delicata Brown Shimmer and the result is absolute outstanding. 

Base Layer 2

I am using Rubbermoon Esoteric Rubber Stamp by Sandra Evertson inked with the same Delicata Brown Shimmer. You can see how beautiful the stamp detail was.

STEP 3 - MAIN LAYERS

Stickers

Minimal number of sticker with striking color will be my main feature. Generally I have choose 2 major color. In this case as you can see the main color are Red & Green.

Stamps 

I choosing the 100 Proof Press - Wood Steel Square Key Stamp to give more impact in my collage.

Washi Tape

Simple vintage washi tape will give some writing element to my design. The green leaf will give color impact in decorating the whole postcard scheme. I am using vellum paper as additional layer stamped with Rubbermoon Rubber Stamp Sugar Doddy by Kea Pea. Stick it with red washi. I'll show you the result on final image. Stay tuned.

Vintage Postal Stamp

Move along...this postal stamp will give more aesthetic impact on my postcard. I put initial layer of washi underneath of the stamp.

STEP 3 - FINAL TOUCH

Stamps

You can use a lot of things as a final touch such as washi, small stickers, paper cutting, inks

and many more. I am choosing one of my favorite stamp for 100 Press Proof - Kennedy Half Dollar. Check out the detail. Love it.

FINAL STEP - EXTRA SMALL DETAIL

Extra Details

Most people generally neglected this steps. This step where you make you design more unique and complicate by add small detail to your design. I personally will use left over of the the thing that we use in the previous step. See...  zero waste practice.. :).

RESULT

Here we go my DIY POSTCARD for this HOLIDAY SEASON. The main question now? To whom shall I sent this postcard?
