Drift Wood Missouri Walking sticks

Hi there, Sandee, Creative Team Coordinator
for the one and only fabulous 100 Moons Collaborative team.

This isn't your usual tutorial post today, just a trip down memory lane about my recent road trip to visit the wonderfully talented artist and owner of Rubbermoon and ArtFoamies and my friend Kristen Powers. I had a lovely room right off the Mississippi River and truly immersed myself in the life among the river....like every morning around 4am when the train rolled through and you can see it far off in the distance here. ..if you look closely.
Foggy morning with the train running over the trestle in the back.

Kae Pea is the hardest working artist I know, truly dedicated to both her companies and to all the people she comes into contact with on a daily basis. She cares deeply and it shows in her dedication.

On this trip...
I ventured out along the Mississippi River each morning on a wilderness trek, greeting the rather fragrant shoreline with bright eyed enthusiasm as that is what this nature girl loves. There were treasures to be gathered and hoarded, and one of them was my drift wood walking stick.

I couldn't wait to get back to Kae Pea's studio and begin painting. I wish I could have said I thought about taking pictures to show the step out procedure but alas I did not. But I can tell you I was a woman on a mission to get it fully completed before I left Missouri.

Here's a picture of Kae Pea putting some of her creative genius to work designing the art for her stick with some Art Foamies, which were terrific for stamping onto the round uneven surfaces.

As I left Missouri for my 11 hour trek back across home to North Carolina I was grateful for the time that I got to spend with her and her wonderful family, Mr. Moon and Maxi and I will cherish my memories and look forward to making new ones again soon! I will think of my time spent here walking the Mississippi River front collecting driftwood and the laughter spent with with KP in her studio while we painted and played for hours!

Given to Whimsy

I could go on and on about what attracts me to RubberMoon's stamps.
I could tell you how awed I am by the quality of the product, the variety, the artistry, etc.
But if I had to sum it up in one word?
That word would be whimsical.

I love RubberMoon's stamps because they are whimsical.
Which means they play right into my flights of fancy
and my inability to take art seriously.

So, when I saw the catfish and the "Holy catfish!" sentiment stamps,
I had to have them. Had to.

For this card, I began with one of my favorite background techniques.
This one is so easy and so much fun!

Begin by smooshing (that's a technical term, right?) various ink pads
on a non-stick craft sheet.

Spritz the inked sheet with water and swirl the colors around.

You can use an old chopstick for this,
but I like to get messy, so I just use my finger.

Then just gently place a piece of glossy paper on to it.
Lift it up, and ta-dah!

The bonus is that there's usually enough left over smooshy stuff
on the mat to do another background,
and it'll be completely different from the first.

Next, I stamped the catfish in green on the background.
I wanted to make the head and tail different from the body,
so I stamped that in brown on a separate piece of paper.
I cut the head and tail of the brown catfish and set it aside.

I added some glitter to the green catfish's fins and
colored in the eyes and whiskers on the brown catfish head.

The background seemed a little bare to me,
so I sponged on some blue ink to give it a little more oomph
(another technical term).

I added some fishy friends for my catfish
using a Stencil Girl stencil, a sponge and brown ink.

After that, I added some seaweed using RubberMoon's Large Fern stamp
as well as the "Holy Catfish!" sentiment.

The only thing left to do was to assemble the piece.
I used some double stick spacing tape for the brown catfish head and tail
to make them stand out from the page a little bit.

I glued the piece to some matching green cardstock,
then glued that to my card base.

Now I can send it on its way and fill a friend's day with whimsy!

Step 3: Color the cutout frame using Brusho turquoise. Color the moon and stars of the frame using yellow and brown Wink of Stella. Stamp the star tree and color using the same pens. Highlight the stars and frame bottom using a white gel pen.

Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice is upon us again!

For this card, I used Rubbermoon stamp Winter Solstice (jc1033).

I busted out the Art Spinner to create a floaty space background.  A toss of glitter across wet paint was a fine addition.

I stamped Winter Solstice girl using Staz On black ink and colored her in with Caran d'Ache Watercolor Crayons.

I cut out the funky lettering from a old issue of Alaska magazine.  My letter "C" is actually an altered "G".  Each letter was then boxed off with white pen.

Let the celebration of light begin!

RubberMoon has me in Stitches!

By Colleen Bodvig

I've stamped my heart out making Greeting Cards for the Holidays, so I thought it was time to wash the ink from my hands and take a break... that is, after I stamped these two RubberMoon images (Star Wreath and 3 Hanging Ornaments) on fabric, using a StazOn ink pad.

A few simple, satin stitches later...  and Voila!

Don't be afraid to take your ink pad and stamps to new places.

Be Merry!

Happy Holidays from Colleen!

Christmas Bits and Bobs!

Hello friends and happy Friday! It is Kim here today to share with you some gift wrapping solutions for your holiday wrapping.

I had a great time with this project, creating my own gift tags and ribbon was a lot of fun, and could even be something that the kids could be involved with.  So many of Rubbermoon's stamps worked for this project, and some of them are not necessicarly for Christmas. But, if used with the right colored inks can really bring out the holiday spirit in them! I am always looking for that final touch to add to my packages and these little bits and bobs I created should work out great.

I used some Flakey Tags from Gina's Designs along with her snowflakes on the tags. First, I got out my gelatos and Fireworks sprays from Imagine Crafts and just played around with different colors until I was happy with the result. Once my background was complete, I dove into my Rubbermoon stamp stash and got out some things that I thought would work. I used the stardust stamp as a common theme on all of the tags to tie them together.

I then used some muslin fabric I had, ripped it into strips and stamped some more fun images on them. This time the common theme was the "Wishes really do come true" stamp. I thought that was apropo for the season, and used colored inks on the image and black for the sentiment.

I used various sprays on the above ribbon to get the nice icey blue color, then I stamped on the sentiment.

I created 3 tags and 3 muslin ribbons for my packages. I am sure they will make my gifts more fun and festive!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you will give this fun project a try!

Whimsical Village Canvas

This is Carmen sharing with you this whimsical village canvas which has some of my favorite collage and ephemera pieces.  Last year I found a New York City "Street Listings and Maps" book from 1964.  It was perfect for creating the houses with my RubberMoon stamps.

The stamps I used were Lovely Loft House, Crooked Chimney House, and Row House.  The background is layers of vintage music sheets that were created on a Gelli Plate.  I have quite a stash of them and that makes it easy to pick and choose.

I wanted to add a little bit more texture and dimension to the canvas so I used some chipboard texture sheet in Checkerboard from Gina's Designs.  It's very easy to cut into the size you want.  I then spritzed it with Imagine Crafts Irresistible in Bronze, and shaded the edges with the new StazOn midi in Ganache.

I adhered it to the canvas with some tacky glue and then sealed it with gel medium.

The houses were highlighted with Elementz metallic markers and Fude Ball black pen on the edges.

Life Glitter - Rubbermoon * Imagine Crafts Cross Promotion

Be sure to visit the IMAGINE Crafts and RubberMoon blogs daily for more projects and ideas!

Life Glitter - Rubbermoon * Imagine Crafts Cross Pomotion

Here is the gathering of goods, the step in the creative process in which all possible art supplies get stacked on the top of my desk for possible use.  In this case, Kae Pea's New Moon stamp paired with a VersaMark Marker and two bottles of Shimmer Spritz by Tsukineko.

Additionally, Tsukineko Fireworks! and Staz On ink rounded out my pile, along with bits and pieces of pretty paper, ribbon, and other ephemera.

Fireworks! on the page, emboss dried before stamping and embossing Kae Pea's Wings.

Streak directly to paper Staz On Ink, Blue Hawaii.  I must add that these midi ink pads are amazing! :)

Finally - assemblage.  Layer pretty papers, wings to the moon, "Life glitter" circles, and dusting of glitter here and there.  This is my Life Glitter.
