It's Always Sunny at RubberMoon!

Can I just say... I love Sunny Carvalho's line of stamps at RubberMoon! They are fun and whimsical, and I love fun and whimsical. It's rare that I send a serious card to anyone, so I'm always on the lookout for stamps that are different, but that mirror my... oh, let's call it quirky... my quirky sense of humor.

I read just last week that adult coloring books are all the rage now. For some of us, coloring has never stopped being all the rage. Maybe we should change "all the rage" to "all the happiness". Because what takes us back to happy childhood feelings the way that coloring a plain black and white image does? Maybe throwing a water balloon at some poor, unsuspecting soul, but they'll kick you out of the coffee shop for that.

*ahem*

Sunny's images are great fun to color in. The designs leave endless possibilities for color combinations and work well with colored pencils (which is what I used), watercolor, crayons, pens, sharpies, etc. I often use a blender pen dipped in ink when I work with some of these stamps.

Whimsical Village Canvas

This is Carmen sharing with you this whimsical village canvas which has some of my favorite collage and ephemera pieces.  Last year I found a New York City "Street Listings and Maps" book from 1964.  It was perfect for creating the houses with my RubberMoon stamps.

The stamps I used were Lovely Loft House, Crooked Chimney House, and Row House.  The background is layers of vintage music sheets that were created on a Gelli Plate.  I have quite a stash of them and that makes it easy to pick and choose.

I wanted to add a little bit more texture and dimension to the canvas so I used some chipboard texture sheet in Checkerboard from Gina's Designs.  It's very easy to cut into the size you want.  I then spritzed it with Imagine Crafts Irresistible in Bronze, and shaded the edges with the new StazOn midi in Ganache.

I adhered it to the canvas with some tacky glue and then sealed it with gel medium.

The houses were highlighted with Elementz metallic markers and Fude Ball black pen on the edges.

I love it when so many random things come together to create something lovely!

Reindeer Moon Child of the Universe Postcard

Sometimes you just have to run with whimsy.


Yes, a moon child can have antlers.  She can be whatever she chooses to be.  And in this case, she is reindeer moon child with cool witchy shoes.

She started out as a Bingo card with an added layer of torn, vintage paper.  Red Lead Paperworks provided the background star stencil for for this occasion.  I inked red and olive green stars to the card and outlined most of them with a gold Sharpie pen.


The little dress is a layered affair using a scrap of red toile, red lace, and two layers of white mesh material from Linnie Blooms.  An eyelet strategically placed under the layer of vintage paper adheres the four layers together, as does the button in the middle of the dress.  German scrap wings and crown were also attached.  The shoes were borrowed from Third Coast.   They're a bit large, but a reindeer moon child really doesn't mind.

Mystical messages abound:  "Cosmic offerings" and "From one MOON GODDESS to another."  Note the use of Rock Candy Clear Distress Stickles on moon face and edged along watercolor crayon-painted antlers. 

The final touch?  Little green sparkles.  Chasing whimsy, I tell ya.

Whimsical Watercolor Houses

Hello friends!  Carmen here stopping by from Serendipity Studio to share my very first post with RubberMoon Stamps.  So exciting!  

I'm lovin' my new stamps and how versatile they are to use on different papers, canvases and mediums.  For my first go round I decided to do a watercolor painting using Strathmore Watercolor Paper cold press 5.5" x 8.5".  I used a standard watercolor set and a set of Pro Arte Artists brushes in sizes #8, #6 and #2 for the details.

I used Ranger Archival Ink for the stamping.  The stamps went on evenly and smoothly, no spaces!  I love that!

The doodle trees, pathways and grass were created using Micron Pen .03 mm. 

The images of the houses and dangle hearts are the perfect size for adding watercolor and being able to give them dimension by adding more/or less water and color.
