Halloween Book Made from One Sheet of Paper

Can you believe it's almost Halloween? In some ways this crazy year has gone so slow, but in others it's been so fast! Halloween always kicks off the holiday season for me. It's when we start really getting in to fall, fun decorations start going up, pumpkins start coming out, and we head into Thanksgiving and Christmas soon after.
My project this month was dedicated to the spooky holiday thanks to the variety of stamps and foamies that are available through ArtFoamies, 100 Proof Press, and Rubbermoon stamps.

I created this little booklet from one large sheet of watercolor paper, measuring 12 x 18 inches (I cut a giant 18 x 24 inch watercolor sheet in half). I covered it in gesso, then painted it with different hues of oranges and yellows. I did it in a fun, messy way, not caring what was where, since the ultimate goal was to fold it up into a book.

I then decorated each page with stamps, Tim Holtz Halloween Paper Dolls, and some vintage papers and goodies.
You can see the whole process in the video below, as well as the list of products used. I hope you enjoy, and that you make your own little Halloween book!
Funnily enough, the process for making this little book is similar to what Sarah Matthews did for her Zine. So you could do either, or both! Make sure you check out her post as well!

Image Masking featuring Grandpa's Ride & Pumpkins for Sale - Nancy Sheads

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! This is Nancy Sheads and I'm back today with another project the 100 Moons Creative Design Team. There’s definitely a chill in the air so with Halloween rapidly approaching, it’s time to sneak in a few autumn cards before I go back to my Christmas cards.

Today's project features:

  • Barb Rogers | BR7362H - Grandpa's Ride by Rubber Moon
  • Barb Rogers | BR7356F - Pumpkins for Sale by Rubber Moon
  • Elizabeth St. Hilaire | ES7305H - Poppies by Rubber Moon
  • Copic coloring (see list below)
  • Ink blending and heat embossing for the background.
  • Additional basic supplies linked in thumbnails below

  • When I saw today's featured stamps by Barb Rogers, I thought that those pumpkins would look perfect riding in the back of Grandpa's truck. So I did a little stamping magic using masking paper so that I could combine the two images into one.

Step by Step for Grandpa's Ride
    • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 1.75" x 5.5" and ink blend from dark to light with Distress Oxide inks in Black Soot, Hickory Smoke, and Milled Lavender. Set aside and allow inks to thoroughly dry.
    • Stamp truck on white Copic friendly cardstock with Copic friendly black ink.
    • Stamp truck on stamping mask paper and fussy cut the image.
    • Remove backing from mask and place over original stamped image.
    • Stamp pumpkins so that they appear to sit in back of truck.
    • Remove masking paper.
    • Color image (Copic marker colors shown below).
    • Color centers of tires with a silver gel pen.
    • Fussy cut image.
    • Apply foam adhesive squares to back of image and set aside.
    • Cut a piece of design paper to 2.5" x 5.5" and adhere to card base as shown.
    • Cut a piece of white cardstock to 1 7/8" x 5.5" and adhere to center of design paper as shown.
    • Orient ink blended strip so that the darkest area is on the bottom. With watermark ink, stamp Poppies across the width of the strip. Cover with silver embossing powder and heat set.
    • Glue ink blended strip to center of white cardstock.
    • Stamp sentiment as shown.
    • Adhere truck to front of card as shown.

Hope you enjoyed today's project. See you soon!

    Moon ' ificent!

I love Halloween more than any other holiday and I hope you enjoy my Hallow offering!

    Supplies used:

RubberMoon: GE2520 - 4 sided Moon Cube Stamp
    Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko:  StazOn Jet Black
    Alpha Stamps: Black Dresden Trim
Sizzix: Squares Die and Eileen Hull, Cubes Die
    White Mountboard
    Sharpie Black Marker Pen
    Glue

I began by die cutting all of my shapes

I then stamped my images and went around the edges with a black Sharpie pen

I used the StazOn pad direct to the mountboard. This produces an almost linen/fabric effect on the surface. On the larger bottom square I went around the edge with the Sharpie again to give it more definition against the white edge of the middle size square.

I then assembled my cube using the same StazOn ink technique and finished the top and bottom edges of the four sides with black Dresden trim.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog today!

Spooky RubberMoon ATC Book by Kersten Christianson

Halloween is in the air and on the page!  And in this case, on what started as a sheet of watercolor paper that morphed into ATCs and became a mini book of Halloween goodness.

First, I used my Caran d'Ache watercolor crayons to create vibrant background color for each stamp used.  It was a kind of scribble and add water effect.  Next, I used StazOn Jet Black ink to stamp each image on top of my watercolor scribbles.  The jack o'lantern is the only image I stamped first, and colored after.

Rubbermoon stamps used for this project include:  Witch Houses (ge2602), Blue Ribbon Pumpkin (db4795), Hanging Jacks (db4924), Scary House (ge2740),and Scary Neighbors (rm2827).

I used a heavy black cardstock for the background of each ATC.  From there, I trimmed or square cut each stamped image to my liking.

This ATC back took a bit of direct to paper Peacock Blue Distress ink and dry brushed acrylic orange paint.  Wouldn't a tree of Hanging Jacks be a funky sight to encounter out in the woods?

More acrylic paint added to this background with a yellow gold trim added after the card's assembly.  The spooky words are add-ons, ephemera from Retro Cafe Art.

Here is the growing piles of ATCs.

     More acrylic painted background effects.

This little house is about one of my favorite Halloween images.  Once I had stamped the primary image, I applied a thin layer of Gesso to newsprint paper and restamped the house on this.  The image was then cut out and applied to my ATC.

An eyelet was added to the upper left corner of each ATC.  Through each I ran a piece of skull ribbon and voila!  Happy Halloween! :)

    Witchy Woman

    by Colleen Bodvig

I'm a little surprised that my inspiration for this month's project is this creepy, little spider from RubberMoon (ge2888 - spidey) - particularly since I HATE spiders!  But there you go:  One never knows when the inspiration bug will bite you!

My spider needed a home on which to reside (and multiply), so I assembled some bits and pieces which I hoped would become an art doll assemblage.

Hot glue gun in hand, I went to work! I don't think there is any reason a Witch has to be unattractive, do you?  Borrowing the face from RubberMoon's New Moon stamp, she looks more angelic than witch-like:

...so I "creeped" her up a bit with lots and lots of spiders (stamped on vellum):

But I couldn't stop there.  She needed a canvas to stand against, so I created a makeshift shadowbox from this vintage find:

...and I ended up with this:

Below are a few closeups of the details.  For the spider web (Victorian Greetings), I decided to make use of the "halo" left over from punching the face out of the RubberMoon New Moon stamp:

For the fall scenery, I used two RubberMoon pumpkin stamps (long, tall pumpkin and pumpkin vine).  Both were stamped on a heavyweight vellum and colored with Copic markers. Since the ink from the alcohol markers stayed on the surface (did not bleed), I ended up with a pretty and slightly glossy effect as I worked the layers of color.

One paper hat and a train of fibers later, her outfit is complete:

Enjoy your Halloween... but beware the spiders!
