 I am so thrilled to be here on the Rubber Moon blog and sharing my project with you all using these lovely and whimsical rubber stamps by Rubber Moon!

I have always been drawn to create houses ... all kinds of houses! I love fairy houses, city houses etc, but due to the fact that I am suffering from "Cabin Fever" now, I am creating Beach Houses  for this project today.

When I think of the beach.. some of my all time favorite colors to mind~ turquoise, pink, orange,yellow,purple and these are the colors I am using today!

My thought was to use the "Moon Unit House" and the "Lovely Loft House"  as my beach houses. I then wanted to create some texture in the water and the sun above by using stencils and spray inks. I used the little saying stamp "sprinkle moondust, spread magic" for the waves in the water. The stamp "New Moon" was added to the top of the Loft House, and "Love this Face" was added to the sun on top.

One Stamp, Three Designs by Barb Black

Hello, fellow crafty people!I have a lot of rubber stamps. I mean... a LOT! Usually my designs include multiple stamps. But every now and then I like to challenge myself.


So, when I received this very cool Tall Tree stamp in my last RubberMoon order, I decided to play and only let myself use that one stamp for three different designs.

This first design was inspired while I was sipping coffee and watching the cottonwood leaves flying from the trees.



For the background, I used a sponge dipped in various colors of ink pads and simply swiped it across the cardstock. I sprayed the sponge with Tsukineko's Ink Potion No. 9 and swiped over it again.



I stamped the tree using my Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate ink pad. I sketched in the leaf pile and falling leaves using Derwent's Inktense watercolor pencils.

For the second card, I went Halloween, because... hello? Candy!


I began with a piece of medium blue cardstock. I used the lid from an old plastic container to mask out the moon. Then, using dark blue and dark purple ink, I sponged in the background.



Once I had the color to where I wanted it, I used my Distress Ink paint daubers in white and silver to fill in the moon.



I stamped the tree three times using StazOn Jet Black ink. I used a white jell pen to roughly sketch the outlines of the trees where the light would shine.

My third design plays entirely to my love of winter. Yes. I'm one of those freaky snow lovers.



For this one I used a piece of medium blue cardstock (the same blue I began with in the second card, by the way). I stamped the tree using Brilliance Moonlight White. I also used some of the same ink on a sponge to make the snow on the ground.



I used a white gel pen to draw in the extra branches. And, to finish the piece, I dabbed Picket Fence Distress Stickles to mimic some gently falling snow.



I'll never give up my many, many stamps and I still love using as many as I can at one time, but it was fun to challenge myself.  I challenge you to do the same. Pick one stamp and do three completely different things with it.

My last post was in February. It is exciting to be back for a visit! 

Today I will show you how to create the painting below 

"Three Horses In A Corner."

Acrylic painting

1.Your Painting Surface

 You will need a 12x12 inch artist panel, 3/4" deep 

or any other size you might prefer.

This panel is made by Ampersand and is wonderful

 to work on as it is a hard surface, perfect for stenciling. 

I also enjoy the texture as it so closely resembles real canvas. 

Cloth-like texture on a super sturdy surface-perfect!

2. Your Under Painting

For this step you will need the following acrylic paints and one brush:

Burnt Sienna

Manganese Blue Hue

Naples Yellow Hue

Wide, flat, scrubby, inexpensive paint brush

The brands I use are Golden and Liquitex. 

Other brands should work just fine too.

3. The Final Details

Various handmade stencils. I have drawn

 and cut out  my own stencils in the 

shapes of a horse, bird, oval.

Feel free to create any designs that you prefer.

For my stencils I used a manila folder. For the smaller white circles

I used the RubberMoon Organic Circle Stamp #TK6F. For the triangle designs I used the stencil shown. I found it at Michael's Art Store.

Paint colors for these final detail were Burnt Sienna, Gray, Blue Gray, White and Cobalt Turquoise.

VOILA!!

Tea for Two by Colleen Bodvig

If you follow my personal blog, Remains of the Day, you may already know that I recently experimented with a few ways to add color to a solid image stamp (RubberMoon's Teapot and Mugs).  

Taking one of my test prints (shown above), I was inspired to create this "Tea for Two" collage:

Below are a few of the steps involved in creating the layers of this collage:

First, I used matte gel medium to glue down the tea-related dictionary clippings, then used my new paint wedge tool by Catalyst along with Golden Fluid Acrylics and Making Memories Acrylic Paint to lay down a base of color.

Next I added texture with foam stamps I created from embossing folders (the text background and mini dots shown below):

I can't seem to create ANY collage that doesn't include faux post, so using 100 Proof Press postage borders and postage paper, along with RubberMoon's "teacup bird," I created some postage stamps to add to my collage:

For the last layer, I stamped with RubberMoon's "dots & circles" and "circles upon circles" using acrylic paint...

...and then I added the postal cancellation images as the finishing touch!

Sweet Little Bird 

Mini Canvas

Good Morning!!

This is Teresa Cox Kolar from Purple Sun Studio 

and RubberMoon Art Stamps. Today I would like to show 

you how to create a sweet little bird painting on a mini canvas.

My preoccupation with Spring continues.

 I just can't help dreaming about the longer, warmer days

 when the birds will be singing and flowers will be blooming.

 In the following tutorial we will be working with

acrylic paints and a sweet little RubberMoon Art Stamp designed

by your's truly and a mini canvas.

 I have really had a great time using these little canvases. 

You can experiment all you want.

 When you are done you have a tiny creation 

for adding to existing wall arrangements. 

Or, as you experiment and collect them, you can

create a decorative wall ensemble.

Let's Get Started!!

Start your mini painting by applying a dark 

layer of paint on your 2x2 inch canvas.

 I got my canvas at Michael's Art Store.

Here I applied cream in a corner and then used

 dark paint on a RubberMoon Art Stamp-Henri Motif, #TK5f.

**Special note- watch the little Henri Motif stamp (in the lower right corner of the canvas) slowly disappear during the creative process. This was not planned. Originally I wanted it to show through the transparent gel medium. However, as things moved along it became apparent that the little shape would not work with the rest of the composition. Artistic license took over and the little shape gradually disappeared.

The shape needed some extra paint to make it darker.

 I used a rigger brush.

Next I applied a thick layer of Gloss Heavy Gel. 

As you can see, it goes on white. 

When dry, it will be completely transparent 

with a very shiny finish.

Next I apply a layer of Burnt Sienna using a 

very stiff, scratchy brush-the best kind 

for achieving texture.

Next layer is done with turquoise and dark lime green.

Then, add some, cream and french gray blue.

Here I applied some white paint to the same

 stamp I used earlier 

RubberMoon Art Stamp-Henri Motif (small), #TK5f). 

 Just using this stamp to get some added

textural effects.

 Here I created a bird shape with a 

stencil I made from a manila folder. I chose only one 

of the birds for this mini canvas. I also added

 branches using the rigger brush I mentioned earlier. (Not shown)

More stamping done

on the edges of the piece 

and some detailing. Very small, pointed brushes 

work best.

Voila!!

A sweet little bird just waiting for Spring to make an appearance.

Baby It's REALLY Cold Outside!!

"Beautiful Blizzard"

At this very moment I am working in my studio. A perfect way to spend the day when being outside is not even a remote possibility. All schools have been closed. The high temp for the day is well below 0 degrees! Baby it's REALLY cold outside!! No use complaining (even though I do!) Instead let's work on a wintery art piece with the help of RubbrerMoon Art Stamps and some homemade stencils.

The Under Painting

Below is a photo of the initial stages of an acrylic painting. You start with a canvas the size of your choice. Here I used an 8x10 inch canvas. You will need acrylic paints-French Blue Gray, white and cream. The paints with a more liquid consistency work best. Here I have used a handmade stencil shaped like a white pine tree. I also used a stencil with a filigree type design. These will be part of the under painting. The colors used for the under painting were a variety of medium toned colors with a small amount of warm colors like Burnt Sienna and Yellow chre. The trees were created with very dark tones like Burnt Umber. The filigrees were done with French Blue Gray. The best brushes to use are stiff bristled, scratchy type brushes. They work best for achieving the wispy brush strokes seen here.

Handmade Stenciling

Next is a photo of stylized circular shapes created by cutting out a stencil from a manila folder.

Think "airy energy." Situate the circles all around for a light airy feel- blizzardy.

This is the type of brush that works best. Stiff,bristled and flat.

Stamping

Now it's time for stamping! Below is a photo of a stamp from RubberMoon. 

It is called Inksplat. It is sold on the RubberMoon website. Simply click the Inksplat link.

 The color used here is French Blue Gray. Stamp your entire canvas to suggest wintery/snowy shadows.

Painting

Time to start painting your pines. The brush that works best is a pointed, round brush. Here I am painting suggestions of tree shapes in white. These stand out against the medium toned background colors and also tie in nicely with the stenciled circles.

Use your French Blue Gray to add trees that tie in the blue "snowy shapes."

More Stamping.......

This time with white paint.

 all around your canvas.

And Voila!!

A wintery, snowy, blizzardy painting!
