Mini Ornaments

Last week I spent an afternoon making these fun, fast (and how adorable are they?!) mini ornaments. I had a box full of the little charms in different shapes and sizes that I got from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. They pair perfectly with so many of the stamps from my RubberMoon collection!

They're easy to make and assemble. I began by stamping whatever image I wanted on white cardstock. I decorated the images and cut the cardstock to fit the charms. I glued the cardstock to the base of the charm and then glued on the top piece of the charm.

Next, I made a puddle of glue on my craft mat and dipped the top of the charm in it and then dipped it in glitter. Just like frosting a donut and putting sprinkles on top! (Mmmm.... donuts....)

Finally, I added Diamond Glaze to the inside to make it look shiny and glass. One thing to note is that I used StazOn ink for the stamping and coloring. I did this because the Diamond Glaze will make water based inks run.

When everything was dry, I added a little bow and a string for danglin'. Ta Da! Christmas magic. I'll use these to decorate my tiny 18" tree or to add to packages for a little extra present.

Here they are up close (but keep in mind that the largest is only about 1 1/4 x 1 3/4").

Thankful for RubberMoon

I know I gush about the RubberMoon Mail Club all the time, but only because it really is that great. Every month I look forward to whatever surprise is going to land in my mailbox. When my beloved comes home from work, he always stops to get the mail on the way in. Each month there comes a point that he walks through the door and announces, "You got something from RubberMoon." I will not confirm it as fact, but it is entirely possible that I emit a squeak of delight when I hear that.

I will, however, confirm that I emitted such a squeak this month upon actually opening my package. Because... Wow! What a great bunch of goodies! Just look - it felt like my birthday or Christmas or something.

This month, not only did I get the very cool, exclusive frame stamp from RubberMoon (which I used to make the card above) and art sample (inspiring as ever from our own Kae Pea), but a bunch of other goodies from other noteworthy companies that joined in the fun. There was an extra rubber stamp from 100 Proof Press, Art Squares from Inchie Arts, chip board die cuts from Gina's Designs, and an ink pad from Impress Cards & Crafts!

All of this makes it the perfect time to say how very thankful I am for RubberMoon and the constant inspiration I get from RubberMoon stamps, yes, but also for Kae Pea who tirelessly (I'm sure it only seems that way... she must be exhausted) runs the place all while making art of her own, and for the amazing, creative group of fine folks that make up the MoonMail Club. You may have noticed that when I end these blog posts, I always ask, "Where will your imagination take you?" I always hope that you'll take it both literally and figuratively. After years of playing with all kinds of different rubber stamps from nearly every company there is, my imagination took me to the doorstep of RubberMoon... and for that, I am truly thankful.

I used the frame stamp to make a quilted looking Christmas card because I was already in Christmas card making mode and had all my other Christmas stamps and colors out already. I used various other RubberMoon stamps to fill in the frames. Those stamps include:

FaLaLa
6-sided Snowflake - Small
Sprinkles Cube
Tiny Elf
Party Planning Penny (last month's MoonMail offering)
Reindeer Border
Christmas String o' Lights

Other Products Used:
StazOn Solvent Ink various colors
Stickles
Gold Gel Pen
Liquid Pearls
Water-based markers
StazOn Studio Glaze
Glossy cardstock

Happy HalloWHAT?

I know, I know... Christmas cards! And we haven't even made it past Halloween yet! I swear, I'm not trying to be obnoxious, at least not this time. The thing is, RubberMoon is retiring some stamps and the stamps I used for these cards are just two of the many.

Why is that a big deal? Well, for one thing, they won't be around much longer. For another... *drum roll*... all of the retired stamps are on sale for 40% off! Click here to see everything that's available. There's all kinds of amazing stuff for every holiday and occasion.

To get the discount, just use the coupon code:
RETIREMENTSALE2015

The other nifty thing about all this is that RubberMoon will have all that empty space to fill... with NEW stamps! Who doesn't love new stamps? I wouldn't know. I don't associate with those dregs of society.

RubberMoon has already added the new line Holly Berry Hills Antique Dolls, and they are very cool.

Stop by and check out all the great stuff, and have a
Happy Halloween!

Where will your imagination take you?

"LET IT SNOW" / RUBBERMOON STAMPS AND IMAGINE CRAFTS CROSS PROMO!

IMAGINE Crafts and RubberMoon Art Stamps are excited to share with you the amazing projects that our design teams have created to kick off the Holiday Season! Over the next few days, we'll be sharing with you inspiration and techniques using IMAGINE Crafts' line of ink products¬†featuring rubber stamps from¬†RubberMoon. Be sure to visit the IMAGINE Crafts and RubberMoon blogs daily for more projects and ideas!

"LET IT SNOW!!!"

What fun it was to create this painting using Rubbermoon Stamps and Art Supplies from Imagine Crafts. This project was created using only stamps as images.  Below are the Stamps I used in the Painting and also the Supplies  from Imagine Crafts.
The "Let it Snow" painting was created on a 12x6 deep profile cradle board.
(9)STRING O LIGHTS (not pictured)

Next I will share some images of the process....
I started by Mounting my favorite "text" Scrapbook Paper then gessoed with a light wash in order to be able to stamp onto the cradle board.

The Stamping Process....
This particular project called for quite a bit of "masking" during the process. (sorry, this pic is blurry). I wanted to insert the Santa Party Hat stamp into the window of the Camper. Obviously, the stamp was larger than the window...so I created a space where the stamp was to show through.  I also used the "masking" process for the trees in the back seat of the car, and also for the trees in the background of the painting, as shown below.
After Masking

Stamping Process Nearly Completed

After Stamping was finished, I chose my favorite Acrylic Colors to make the piece come alive.
To accomplish the fun Snow Flake effect..I randomly dotted the entire painting with a white Poster Paint Sharpie Pen.
Last but Certainly not Least...I sprayed the entire painting with IMAGINE CRAFT'S "SHIMMER", to give the piece a glimmering "after the snow" feel.

As with most of my pieces, I painted the sides of the cradle board and then varnished. It is now ready to enjoy for the Holiday Season!! Happy Holidays to You!

December Daily

Hi there, Jessica here! I wanted to wish you a Happy Christmas Eve on behalf of Rubbermoon!

My daughter and I have been working hard on our December Daily. This is the first year I've taken on the daunting task of tracking every day, but here we are, December 24th, and it hasn't been so bad!

I love stamping. I especially love piecing stamps together to create my own pattern paper. I've taken to purchasing white paper, ribbons, buttons, etc because I can easily alter the color to be whatever I want.

I absolutely fell in love with Rubbermoon's Old Fashioned Ornament stamps and knew exactly what I'd use them for!

I thought these stamps would make an adorable piece of patten paper! I buy my stamps unmounted, and then mount them on cling foam so I can use them on an acrylic block. That allows me to stamp several images at one time. Like this...

I knew exactly which photo I was going to use, so I grabbed some paints that matched my photo, and added those colors to the ornaments... (I used VersaFine to stamp the images, in Onyx Black.)

Once the paint had dried, I went ahead and added the photo, using Pop Dots, from Glue Dots, to secure it in place.

I feel like, none of the pattern paper I had could do this photo justice, and once I created the ornament paper, it just... was perfect! The perfect amount of color... the perfect colors... and it didn't overpower my photo the the papers I had.

Have you tried creating your own pattern paper?

Joy

December is a frenetic month in so many ways, but there are moments to stop, think, and reflect scattered all through the month.  I had some of those moments this week when we spent some time riding in the car with soft holiday music playing.  I LOVE to look at Christmas lights as many times during the month as I can.  Tonight was no exception.  There is always familiarity, of course, with all the icons of the season, but there is something new to experience every year if you really look closely.  I love to see the color changes in the whites, the lines people choose to accentuate outside, the color trends, and love the variety of wreathes.

I feel the same way about ornaments.  I love to fall in love with them every year when we are hanging them.  (Yes, I have weeded some out through the years, so the ones I have made the cut.)When I saw these ornaments by Rubbermoon, I knew they would be perfect for my "Victorian" era Christmas project.

Stamp references:  white and black border (db4986i catalog p. 60), spiral ornament (mk264a catalog p. 89), checkerboard ornament (ge2551c catalog p. 86),  stars and swirls on ball (I drew the topper), and my all-time favorite word, joy.

I have been obsessed with manipulating Citrasolv backgrounds so I took a random National Geographic page that had already been sprayed with Citrasolv in a National Geographic and left to dry while the magazine was still intact.  For more info on this process, visit the tutorials on my blog in September and October. So, as you can see below, this piece is torn straight out of the magazine.  I didn't trim it down so you could see the raw manipulation (totally happenstance).  I believe the original picture was some kind of cricket match.  I chose it only for color.  I went in search of a page with green and then fell in love with the peachy secondary color on this page.  This page was done around six weeks ago, but you can rework it after the fact.  I make piles of pages.  Become best friends with someone with a National Geographic stash.  You'll be glad you did.

These are some of the supplies I use when reworking a page.  I often use India ink and dip pens, stencils, stamps, paint brushes, etc.  That's only the tip of the iceberg, though.

For this particular design, I chose to remove a pattern around the edges with Terri Stegmiller's Layered Salad stencil.  I did first cut down the design to remove the text from the article and to have a workable size.  The detail picture below shows which part of the stencil I used with a paper towel scrap lightly dipped in Citrasolv.  I was able to remove a lot of the green, leaving the peach behind. The second picture below shows the finished border.

Now it was time to make this into something interesting.  I started by stamping the white and black border stamp in the middle using Black StazOn. This addition of black pushed the background back where I wanted it and began the composition.

I continued with the ornaments, starting the ball in the lower right corner, and then the checkerboard ornament in the upper left corner.  I rough cut a mask of the checkerboard ornament and placed it over the stamped image so that I could stamp the third spiral ornament behind.  I hand drew lines and made a ornament top with a XS Pitt Artist Pen.
To compliment the composition by I then masking off all but one side of the border stamp and stamping it along the perimeter for a repeat pattern.  I added some black into the border with another great stencil by Joanne Sharpe for the StencilGirl's Club. Then I finished it off with the simple word joy at the bottom.  Now who would have thought this was a cricket game????  That's the beauty of creating art from something else.  I know.  You now know, but no one else would see anything except a complex background.

While I liked this so far, but it still needed some tactile texture so I mounted all of it with two sided tape to green cardstock, and then sliced a tiny bit of peach to slide under before adding it all to matte black heavy cardstock.  (I decided to make this a card, but this could also have been mounted and framed.) I then took my all-time favorite PPA matte glue from USArtquest and some of their Guilt Trip pearls and went to town using my toothpick with a little bit of PPA to pick up the Prills right from the container.  The antiqued gold color and organic nature of the Prills was perfect to finish off the ornaments.

I love to do oddly colored Christmas pieces.  It keeps it fresh for me!  I hope you enjoyed it.  Rubbermoon has oodles of other Christmas and holiday stamps.  Check them out and please comment with any technique questions you might have here, my website or on my facebook art page. I'll see you on my blog on December 24 for holiday part 2, a holiday gift from Rubbermoon and me.
