Wanderlust

This time of year always finds me itchin' for a road trip and adventure. Basically, I'm looking for anything that will take my mind off the heat of August, something different than hiding out in my igloo (read: the one air conditioned room in the house).

That's where the inspiration for this week's card came from. I'd love nothing more than a long drive up into the mountains, top down on the car, music blasting... *sigh*

I began the background with a wash of Twinkling H2Os to give the sky and sun some sparkle. I used a Derwent watercolor pencil for the road and washed over that as well. I stamped the car using StazOn ink and colored that in with Twinkling H2Os as well. I used orange craft ink for the sun face and  Distress Ink for the trees. I topped the whole thing off with my sentiment of the month... "Wanderlust."

Then, just because I'm so desperate that I'm willing to take whatever mode of transportation is available, I did the following card.

Digital Crafting with RubberMoon Stamps

Hello Everyone, It's me, Jeannie, with another creation using RubberMoon Stamps.

Today, I am using Barb Roger's Party on Wheels stamp.

To start off this digital creation, I stamped the trailer in black ink on white paper.

Next, I scanned the image and opened it in my photo editing program.

As you can see, it did not scan perfectly, so I needed to adjust and do some fill in and clean up on the image.

Here is the image all cleaned up and ready to go.  To use stamps like this and color them in, the way I do, I have to make sure that all the lines touched another black line, so that the color I used to fill in would have a stopping point.

(I hope that makes sense.)

After I did the digital coloring, I played around a little with some preset brushes and this is the final product.

Then I had to lift, for lack of better words, the image from the background so that I'd be able to move, just the trailer without the white background the original image was attached to or part of.

(Again, I hope that makes sense.)

Next, I found an image I wanted for my background. Then I altered it to my liking, as seen below.

Next, the FUN part!! 

Add your sentiment/phrase.

The beauty of creating digitally, you can use any sentiment you want!

After the background  was done, I dropped the trailer on the background.  

I fine tuned it by adding drop shadows, etc. to the image and phrase and this is the final image.

I printed 3, 4 x 6" images on one sheet.

I then cut out a trailer from one of the images.

I applied ink around the edges to add to the depth when used as a 3-D effect.

Then, I put all my pieces together and created a quick simple card.

This is a tri fold card and was a bit difficult to photograph.

Since I did not use the 3rd image for the card, it becomes a Postcard! 

 It is sized perfectly and has a fun image and sentiment, in addition to meeting postal standards!

If needed, I could have made the trailer bigger or smaller for whatever project I was using it for.

That is the beauty of creating digitally with your craft stash and RubberMoon Stamps.

I absolutely love Buntings! They bring such celebration and festivity to all occasions. Or Buntings can bring joy to ANY TIME  that is not even a special occasion at all. I use them in quite a few of my Art pieces and many times incorporate Rubbermoons own stamp, Large Bunting in some of my Vintage Trailer Paintings.  In this particular Bunting,  I am also introducing my first few Stamp Designs for Rubbermoon Stamp Company and along with that a Wonderful Word Stamp "FLY" designed by fellow Creative Team Member, Nancy Curry.

I will try to give some what of a step buy step tutorial on the making of this Bunting. It mainly amounts to quite a bit of Cutting and LOTS of Rubbermon Stamps....and that is what we LIKE! I will list all the stamps I used for this project at the bottom of the post.

To give the Bunting some "substance", I gathered 3 pieces of Card Stock and Taped then together underneath with Wide Clear Packing tape to make a horizontal backing for the Bunting. I then used an already existing Bunting which I took from my very favorite publication, FLOW Magazine. I laid the Flow Bunting on top of the taped Card Stock.

I carefully traced around the Bunting with pencil, using a ruler to make sure the lines are straight.

After tracing the existing Bunting on to the Card Stock, I then carefully cut it out along the traced lines.

This Bunting consists of 5 different Flags. I then picked out 5 cool coordinating pieces of Scrapbook paper from my supplies. 

I placed the first piece of Scrapbook Paper under the Flag on the left hand side then cut it out also. Repeating each piece of Scrapbook paper for the remaining Flags on the Bunting. After tracing and cutting, I attached the Scrapbook Flags to the top of the Card Stock Backing.

The Bunting will look like this after pasting the Scrapbook paper to the backing. I promise in Real Life it doesnt look this blurry...promise.

Next comes the FUN part! I chose close to 20 different Rubbermoon Stamps to create fun images on my Bunting Flags.

For this particular project, I didnt want to paint the stamps. Instead I used Newspaper type print for Stamping,  and then cut each one of them out to apply onto the Bunting Flags.

On this Flag, instead of cutting out the stamped image, I added black Photo Corners to give it a Vintage Feel.
