Wanderlust

This time of year always finds me itchin' for a road trip and adventure. Basically, I'm looking for anything that will take my mind off the heat of August, something different than hiding out in my igloo (read: the one air conditioned room in the house).

That's where the inspiration for this week's card came from. I'd love nothing more than a long drive up into the mountains, top down on the car, music blasting... *sigh*

I began the background with a wash of Twinkling H2Os to give the sky and sun some sparkle. I used a Derwent watercolor pencil for the road and washed over that as well. I stamped the car using StazOn ink and colored that in with Twinkling H2Os as well. I used orange craft ink for the sun face and  Distress Ink for the trees. I topped the whole thing off with my sentiment of the month... "Wanderlust."

Then, just because I'm so desperate that I'm willing to take whatever mode of transportation is available, I did the following card.

RUBBERMOON Kre8Tiv ELEMENT STAMPS LOOK GREAT ON RETRO ART

I just love using RUBBERMOON'S KRE8TIV DESIGN ELEMENT STAMPS in my Retro Art. This actual piece combined a total of 8 RubberMoon Stamps. After I painted a gesso wash over clock themed scrap paper I drew the coffee pot using a graphite pencil. 


After the drawing was complete, I traced the graphite lines with Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen (Fine Tip). Then came the fun part! 


I situated each stamp onto the drawing to give the coffee pot a Retro Mid-Century look. The following images are pics taken during the process of the painting.

I can't tell you how much fun it is to add these cool stamps to my painting. It adds such flair and personality. I hope you like it!

Another Retro Coffee Pot using RubberMoon Stamps!!!

RubberMoon FLOWER POT Watercolor Fun!

This Summer I have had SO much fun being part of an online class named Flower Power, taught by such a talented and generous teacher, Kristen Powers. Using some of the techniques I learned in class,  I created this blog project.  

In this particular painting, instead of drawing out my own Flower Pot,  I wanted to do something different. There is a RubberMoon Stamp Named...Four Flower Pots, that I really LOVE.  In the piece above, I used this single stamp TWICE  in order to have a row of colorful painted bouquet of flowers.

To Create this project, I used the above materials. Watercolor Paper, Watercolor Paints, Acrylic Paints, White Gesso and the Four Flower Pots Stamp.

I didn't want to use the Full Stamp twice on the painting for Composition purposes, so I used the "Masking" technique with a "post- it" note to partially cover some of the stamp. 

 This is the result of "Masking"  the Stamp.

The following Photos are of the Painting process learned in the Flower Power Online Class found over at the The Moon & the Maker by Kae Pea.

Moving along...using Watercolor Paints & Gesso  for the Background and Base, Acrylics and Watercolors for the Flowers and Pots.

Adding Gesso to the background and base gives the painting a softer look.

Adding more Color to the corners and scribbles on the background with the paint brush end gives the painting more depth and interest.

Before taking Kristen's online class, I would not attempt painting flowers. Now I have so much fun with it, and I have learned that I can still paint fun and whimsical flowers without losing my own Artistic Style. I hope you have enjoyed this post, because I sure enjoyed painting it!!
