💜Blessing Pie💜
Hi everyone, it's me Patti again for 100 Moons Creative Team.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I was thinking about counting my blessings with my grandmother as a child. Some of my fondest Thanksgiving memories are cooking with my grandmother and counting our blessings. I would sit on a stool at the counter and help her cook while we talked about all the things we were grateful for that year. I really enjoyed baking with her.
So for this month's project I wanted to combine counting my blessings, baking, and art! Here is my recipe for Blessing Pie.
You will need:
1. Get out your clay and knead it until it is soft enough to manipulate. Roll it into a ball, and then flatten with a rolling pin. You want your "crust" to be about 1/8" thick. You need it to be large enough to cover the bottom of the pan, and up the sides, just like you would a real pie crust.
2. Carefully remove the clay from your work surface, and place it into the pan, much like you would a real pie crust. Press the clay against the bottom and against the sides and over the edge of the pan. It should look something like this:
3. Get a piece of parchment paper, and gently flip your "pie" face down onto the paper and trace the circumference of the top of the "pie".
4. Take the scraps of clay from making the bottom crust, and re-roll it out to about 1/8" again. Using a butter knife, freehand cut leaf shapes.
5. Using the circle you traced on the parchment paper, make a ring with the leaves. This will be the edge of the top "crust".
6. Bake the clay according to the package directions.
Be careful not to overbake. Once they are baked, set aside to cool.
7. Using the Kente Cloth Art Foamie, stamp onto 140 lb. watercolor paper in Moonlight Duo Nebula Rust in 2 rows of 3. Cut out the circle from the piece of parchment paper used to make the leaf ring, and place on top of stamped image. Trace the circle onto the stamped image and cut it out. This will make your top "crust".
8. Glue the cooled leaf ring to the top "crust". This is now the top of your pie.
9. Let's make the pie filling! You can use whatever images you like. I chose flowers. The flower images are going to be where you write your blessings. I stamped my images using Moonlight Duos in Sunshine Yellow, Solar Flare Orange, and Space Moss. I used Rubbermoon Upsy Daisy from Maxi's Garden Mix, and one of the Microcosms from Art Foamies. I stamped them multiple times on 140 lb. watercolor paper and cut them out.
11. Now it's time to fill the pie! Gather up all your blessings and place them into the bottom "crust".
12. Once your pie is full, place your top "crust" on top of your pie.
Love and laughter,
Patti
