Let Love Grow

 Hello Friends!

Our general election is over and no matter what your politics, I think we can all agree that it's time for our nation to return to kindness, respect, and love. It seems fitting at this time of Thanksgiving to think about all the things we are grateful for. For me, I am so grateful for all the LOVE that I have surrounding me. This journal page is about LOVE.

Although I miss seeing and hugging my loved ones, I am thankful that I have a home to spend Thanksgiving in even if it's not with all the family members who would normally gather around a table; I am reminded of the kindness of strangers, like the young man who ran ahead to open the door for my 89 year-old mother; or the person who pays for a cup of coffee for someone in need; I am reminded that LOVE always wins and I'm counting on it to be true.  I do admit that I feel lighter without the pre-election noise. That's why I decided on the angel wings, they make the figure seem "light."

This project is representative of how I feel about where we are as a country right now and it helps to remind me we need to "Let Love Grow."

I started this journal page on the Gelli plate, using pink, yellow and blue acrylic paints. I wanted a colorful background that would show through the Artfoamies and would be interesting when I painted around the words and symbols. I used a piece of card stock to pull the print. (Which basically means putting the card stock face down on the Gelli Plate, running your hands over the back for a minute or two and pulling up the paper) I knew that I would be putting paint down over almost the entire piece of paper, therefore, the paper needed some weight to it. A piece of smooth mixed media paper could also be used.

Next I stamped the Artfoamies, words and symbols using a Nocturne VersaFine Clair Stamp Pad.

Once everything was stamped I used Paynes Gray acrylic paint to paint around all the stamped images. I left a small space around the figure and the wings to ensure they would stand out. It's a lot of painting, which frankly, I'm not that good at --  but I really like the end result.

I trimmed off the white edges (you certainly don't need to do that) and will attach it to a journal page using a stapler. (It's my way; easier than gluing it down and I'm all about easy!)

I hope you enjoyed this easy project. I learned this technique from KP a year or two ago and it's always been one of my favorites. It has so many applications for it's use.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
