Reach for the Stars

 Reach for the Stars-Treasure Box

I am Elitia Hart, metal art instructor and mixed media explorer, and this is my second post for the 100 Moons Creative Collaboration blog. I almost always use some form of metal sheet in my projects and love the opportunity and to incorporate Artfoamies100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps and Rubbermoon stamps into my work.

The idea for this little treasure box called " Reach for the Stars" was sparked by the lovely Rubbermoon stamps called Gazing Goddess, Star Goddess, Solstice Heartbeat and Sun Sweet- the small sun face and female form designs all translate beautifully onto metal sheet! For the sides of the box I used the Artfoamies stamp called Tribal Arch and the 100 Proof Press Rubber Stamps Honeycomb Texture Background

When you reach for the stars, you are reaching for the farthest thing out there. When you reach deep into yourself, it is the same thing, but in the opposite direction. If you reach in both directions, you will have spanned the universe.” ― Vera Nazarian.

Process :

I painted the MDF box with one coat of black gesso, once dry, I painted a second coat with a mix of satin varnish and gesso -this seals the box and makes for a good stamping surface and creates better adhesion for the adhesive tape sheet and the glue for the feet.
Using the Artfoamies foam stamp I stamped the sides with the silver paint. I cut a mask for the Artfoamie stamped images and then stamped the corners with the 100 Proof Press honeycomb texture background and the Golden Fluids Gold paint. Using a toothpick I added gold dots to the silver stamped image and silver dots to the center of the gold honeycomb stamped areas.
I divided the pewter sheet into blocks and stamped the images on the front using
Stazon Jet Black Ink. To emboss the stamped images I used a Teflon Tip Tool, stylus, Paper Stump and Plastic Eraser tool on a foam mat and hard surface. I also used a ball and cup tool to create domes in the honeycomb stamped areas and a dotted texture wheel to the border. I filled the concave areas with melted beeswax-you can use ModPodge Dimensional Magic (allow for about 4 hours to set)
I then added the card stock to raise the center block, then applied the Sook wang adhesive to the back of the pewter sheet and attached it to the box lid. I used the Permapaque marker to add interest to the engraved areas and added gold details with the Plaid Liquid Leaf Classic Gold. I attached the knobs for the box feet with Weldbond adhesive. The feet had been sealed with gesso and then painted with the Plaid Liquid Leaf Classic Gold.
I used Rustoleum Satin Clear Spray Lacquer to seal both the pewter sheet and the box.

I had lots of fun creating the treasure boxes with these fabulous stamps- hope you will too!

Until further notice, celebrate everything.
