A Road Trip with Frida

Fall is readily approaching, and I don't think of my favorite time of year without reflecting about the well known day of observance in Mexico, called "Day of the Dead". This special holiday is celebrated throughout Central and Southern Mexico and also by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially in the United States. It is a multi-day celebration of gathering of family and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died, and help to support their spiritual journey. Traditions connected to this holiday include building private alters called "ofrendas", honoring the deseased using sugar skulls, marigolds and favorite foods and drinks of the departed loved ones. Participants visit graves with these items as gifts. The Mexican Day of the Dead celebration is similar to our culture's Memorial Day as a time to honor the dead. The Spanish tradition includes festivals and parades as well as gatherings of families at the cemeteries to pray for their beloved deceased at the end of the day.
RubberMoon Stamps owner and designer, Kae Pea, has done such a wonderful job recreating so many of these images with her Milagros Collection. SO many wonderful stamps depicting this rich culture. You will want to check them all out!
These stamps and the Day of the Dead helped to inspire me to paint the above Vintage Trailer Piece. I will list all SEVEN RubberMoon stamps used in the painting above.
(1) El Sol Heart
(2) Tiny DOD
(4) Doddy O
(5) Eye Heart You
(6) Star Gazer
